Contemporary Artwork Redux

Bay Lake Tower

Contemporary Logo (Copyright Disney)This isn't exactly breaking news but the potential for Vacation Club Villas at Disney's Contemporary Resort remains a topic of great interest to many current and prospective DVC members.  Let's take a look at some of the artwork linked to...whatever construction project is underway to the north of the CR Tower.

First up are the images that touched-off the DVC Contemporaray furor back in 2006:

Proposed Contemporary Construction

Proposed Contemporary Construction

These images were discovered on the website of website of architects Gwathmey Siegel & Associates back in August 2006.  The caption which accompanied the photos read as follows:

Contemporary Disney Vacation Club
Resort Timeshare Condominiums
Lake Buena Vista, FL
Status: In design
Completion Date: 2008

News spread like wildfire and within 24 hours the images were removed from the website.

Next up is an image that appeared in April 2007.

Contemporary Visualization

This image appered simultaneously on a number of Disney websites.  It was attributed to anonymous sources and its origin remains unconfirmed.  It is our opinion that this image is either:

1) A rough visualization used by Disney interally to illustrate how the new tower will fit into the current landscape, or

2) Fan-made artwork (i.e. PhotoShop)

The level of detail suggests option #1 as it would presumedly have taken a great deal of effort for a third-party to create such an image.  Yet the odd perspective (note how the CR Tower seems dwarfed by the new building, which isn't really the case) used in this image would seem to devalue its use for visualization purposes.

Its exact origin currently remains a mystery.

Finally, let's take a close look at one of the architectural plans filed in relation to the new building.

Contemporary Floorplan

This image is most likely the ground floor of the complex, meaning that a large portion of layout will be devoted to offices, retail services (gift shop, restaurant) and perhaps even a front desk.  Nevertheless, most of the areas we have colored in the image appear to represent Two Bedroom Villas in the DVC style.

If nothing else, this image seems to confirm that the building will house either DVC villas or family suites, rather than the type of uniform guest room found in most other deluxe (cash) resort facilities.
