The 8-year old Villas at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa is in the late stages of a soft goods refurbishment of all guest rooms. Let's take a look at the major changes to the Disney Vacation Club villa interiors.
Master bedroom now with plain white bedding, but room for storage underneath
New headboard in master bedroom
Larger TV in master bedroom
New refrigerators are slightly smaller than the old, with finish that doesn't quite match other appliances
New upholstry on dining room seating
New upholstry on living room sofabed
The hutch above the living room Murphy Bed has been removed to accommodate a much larger TV
New living room lamp with Thumper silhouette
New window drapes
Rather plain carpet on the villa interior
New hallway carpet has a bit more character
The reminder of the room design has remained largely unchanged. Walls were repainted but with similar colors. Woodwork throughout the villa has been refinished as necessary. The in-room artwork is all the same as before the refurbishment.
The latest timeline from Disney suggests that the guest room refurbishment will not be complete until the fall of 2017. The Disney Parks Blog recently posted a feature on the Hotel's newly renovated pool area. Additional guest room photos can be found in our Grand Californian Maps & Photos gallery.
Our thanks to Chris for generously helping with the photos!
I just wish it wasn't so hard to get one at 7 months.
I might have to step up to a one-bedroom, as they seem a little bit easier to get than the studios.
I read somewhere recently that the bed scarves are probably history because people were stealing them. The bed looks so plain and white, but I suppose I can understand the need to do away with the bed scarves if the theft really was that bad...sad.
Also there used to be a small shelf on the mantle of the murphy bed under the tv in the living room. Since the tv is so large they had to remove that little shelf that housed the dvd player if i remember. There is still the long mantle for the murphy bed to still put items on.
Last note is they have bolted the island to the floor. I remember before the updating it would be moveable.
