DVCNews Debates: Guaranteed Week

DVCNews Debates

Three years ago Disney Vacation Club introduced a Guaranteed Week purchase option at Aulani and it has since been duplicated at the Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.

The Guaranteed Week option allows buyers to lock-in a specific timeshare week, villa size and view by purchasing approximately 10% more points than they would otherwise need.  With the Guaranteed Week, owners no longer have to deal with the risk and hassles involved in making a reservation at 11 months.  The room is automatically booked for the week purchased, but owners still have the ability to "opt-out" of the Guaranteed Week if they wish to use their points in a different manner.

No, I love the variety of going to WDW during during seasons, and experience different special events. I wouldn't like being locked into just one week a year.

I certainly would have considered it! The idea of getting the view and location set at a specific time without the hassle and stress of not being able to get the desired time would be comforting. The added benefit of releasing the time as the need arises only makes it more appealing. Of course, we tend to enjoy going at a specific time each year, which means that we would be pressing to be there at that time anyway makes it that much more appealing. We enjoy visiting other parts of the "World," and once we get through making the "rounds" we will probably spend most of our time at the home resorts. It seems that focusing on one particular week would also make it easier to judge how many points are needed for the entire life of the contract. The biggest drawback is that we tend to stay 8 nights instead of 7, so we would constantly be in need of the extra points anyway.

No, we would not have purchased. The main reason we purchased was due to the flexibility of the point system.

Definitely NOT, seems like an awfully expensive purchase to be so limited when you can visit WDW. It's not as if they offer a huge discount for that option. We too love the flexiblity and visiting WDW during all the seasons/events

No, I would not have purchased a set week.

Also don't like that others can now do so.

Previously, every Home owner played on a level playing field. We all had equal access. Now, there will be prime inventory no longer available to use at what I imagine will be prime times.

I also think this is going to lead to all members being able to get a guaranteed room/view/location/etc in the future IF we are will to book with a 10% or more point premium.

For 20 years, every DVC member has heard "no guarantees" when it comes to your room selection. Well..... guess what... for a few dollars more you can buy that guarantee.
