Walt Disney World beaches currently closed

Due to the tragic alligator attack which occurred on Tuesday night, beaches around Walt Disney World are currently closed to guests.

Update 6/15 4:45pm:  Rescue workers have recovered the body of the missing boy.

The search continues for a 2-year old Nebraska boy who was carried away by an alligator from the beach adjacent to Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.  The family had been walking along the beach in shallow water when the animal attacked.  The boy's father was reportedly injuried during an unsuccessful rescue attempt.

Authorities are using helicopters, dive teams and sonar-equipped boats in their attempt to find the missing boy.

In the interest of caution, all resort beaches are currently closed to guests.  DVCNews.com friend Marilyn (idratherbeinwdw) posted a photo of barricades at Disney's Yacht Club Resort on our Discussion Forum.

Watercraft travel has also been suspended on the Seven Seas Lagoon.  Resort marinas are currently closed and buses are being used to transport guests between all destinations normally serviced by boat.

On Wednesday afternoon the saga came to a sad end as authorities announced that the boy's body had been recovered.  He was located approximately 10-15 yards from shore, submerged in 6' of water.  It is believe that the child had drowned.
