One year ago marked the last issue of the DVCNews Yahoo Newsletter and the debut of this website. Please join me in a quick look back, and a few thanks to some who made this site possible.
Back in September 2007 site contributor Dave Welty and I had a conversation about this website, the crux of which was: What if there isn't enough happening in the Disney Vacation Club world to justify a dedicated news resource?
Could we have been more wrong?!?!
The last year has witnessed no less than FOUR DVC resort projects announced, a handful of rumored destinations, numerous construction projects and more procedural changes than you can shake a stick at.
Honestly it has been a joy to create this site--tedious at times--but fun and rewarding nonetheless.
But I certainly couldn't have done it alone. The assistance I have received has been invaluable; assistance from site contributors like Dave, the forum moderators and even members of the DVC community who send in noteworthy news and links to other sites. There are the people I've met from other websites who have been so openly supportive including the likes of Lou Mongello, Mark Goldhaber, Matt & Mike and everyone from WDWToday, Scott Donahue, Steve Russo, John Van Meter and many others that I'm certainly omitting. And I can't forget the folks who work for Disney which I have met along the way--you know who you are.
To everyone I say thank you all for the kind words and contributions you make to the site. And when I mention "contributions", I'm not speaking in financial terms. I'm talking about sending in news tips, writing "feature" stories, contributing room info and personal photos to the site, posting on the forums and so on. Although my name appears on most of the front-page stories, this site isn't about "me"--it's about all of "us"--Disney Vacation Club members.
Tens-of-millions of guests visit the Disney theme parks each year but only a tiny fraction of them are DVC members. While that doesn't make us better than others, it certainly does make us unique. Even before buying my first DVC contract I thought that members deserved a website where they can share information and experiences unique to the DVC community. A place where we can make new friends who have similar travel habits and park touring strategies. A place to share in the joys of DVC ownership and hopefully encourage a few others to make the same wonderful commitment that we did.
