100-Point Perks Minimum Confirmed

Furthering its assault on individuals joining Disney Vacation Club by acquiring points on the resale market, Disney Vacation Club will soon mandate that owners buy at least 100 points direct from them in order to qualify for a suite of perks and discounts. 

DVC has begun updating portions of the member website to reflect the new policy. The updated language states, in part:

To receive any Membership Extras, purchasers must present a valid Disney Vacation Club Membership Card along with a corresponding valid photo ID. Effective September 17, 2019 to obtain a Disney Vacation Club Membership Card, Members must accumulate a total of at least 100 Vacation Points purchased directly from Disney Vacation Development, Inc.

Among the Membership Extras covered by this expanded restriction are Annual Pass discounts, Moonlight Magic evenings at the Disney theme parks, access to the DVC member lounge at Epcot, dining discounts, shopping discounts and more. 

With the base price for direct-purchase points now up to $188 each for Disney’s Riviera Resort and Aulani, Disney Vacation Club Villas, buyers continue to turn to resale outlets like The Timeshare Store where points are often available for 1/2 to 1/3 of that price. DVC does continue to sell points for older resorts, however the direct price for some locations has now comfortably eclipsed $200 per point. 

In 2016, Disney Vacation Club first introduced a 25 point minimum for Membership Extras. That was raised to 75 points in 2018. Owners who are currently eligible for Membership Extras under the terms in-force at the time of their purchase will continue to qualify.

The 2018 increase was formally announced two weeks before it went into effect, leading to a flurry of purchase activity. News of this latest increase leaked several days ago. However, DVC has yet to alert members to this pending change which goes into effect in three days.
