silive.com on Dooway to Dreams, NY Disney Connections

General DVC News

Chuck Schmidt of website silive.com (Staten Island) has written a piece about the forthcoming Disney Vacation Club sales center coming to Roosevelt Field Mall on Long Island.

While the piece provides some obligatory details regarding the new DVC sales center, Disney historians will have greater appreciation for the look at Walt Disney's overtures to build a theme park in the New York area. According to Schmidt:

This isn't the first time Disney has had a presence on Long Island. In fact, you might be stunned to learn that when the Disney folks were searching for potential sites for an "East Coast Disneyland" in the 1960s, Flushing Meadows in Queens -- the same site where the two New York World's Fairs were held -- was being seriously considered.

The article also provides an overview of the founding of Walt's vacation empire and ties to the World's Fair back in the 1960's.  The complete article can be found HERE.
