2008 Condo Association Meeting Notes

General DVC News

DVCNews.com forum participant "DVC Mike" attended the 2008 Disney Vacation Club Condo Association Meeting and published some notes from the event.  Among the topics discussed are future resort renovations, handling of the Old Key West contract extension and the sale of some land adjacent to Disney's Vero Beach Resort.

Here are some comments taken from Mike's report:

  • A small strip of land at the Vero Beach resort will be sold to a developer looking to build next door.  The proceds will be used to build basketball and tennis courts for the Disney resort with any remaining funds applied to member dues.
  • Disney's Hawaii resort is scheduled to begin sales in 2011 and open in 2012.  (Ed note:  This pushes the Hawaii timetable back a bit as previous information indicated Disney was looking toward a 2011 opening.)
  • Jim Lewis regrets the manner in which the Old Key West contract extension was handled and said the process will be altered if other resort extensions are made available.
  • Multiple reasons were cited regarding the move from Interval International to RCI including technology, availability of higher-end (fractional) resorts and overall volume of offerings.
  • DVC is very concerned about housekeeping and will continue to look at ways to improve. Members are encouraged to take steps to correct the problem during their trip rather than waiting to write a letter upon their return.
  • Regarding resort refurbishments:
    • Vero Beach is getting new soft goods (linens, towels, etc.) and flat panelsTVs
    • Hilton Head Island also receiving new TVs
    • BoardWalk refurb includes soft goods and flat panel TVs
    • Wilderness Lodge recently completed soft goods refurb; patio furniture and TVs are scheduled
    • Beach Club is receiving new soft goods
