October 2020 Direct Sales Edge Up Slightly

Financial News & Pricing

Led mainly by Disney’s Riviera Resort, direct sales of Disney Vacation Club points continues to improve in October 2020.

Disney's Riviera Resort

In October, 111,667 points were sold for the 11 DVC resorts located at Walt Disney World. This amount of sales is quite low compared to sales before the Covid-19 pandemic shutdown — October 2019 saw 147,386 points sold — it is over 30,000 points more than what was sold in the four months from April through July 2020.

Disney’s Riviera Resort — DVC’s newest resort, Riviera, sold 73,69 points in October, the most since March 2020. Disney has now sold 1,619,144 points for the resort, about 24.0% of its 6.7 million total points.

DVC Direct Sales October 2020

Since sales started in late March 2019, it’s been like a roller coaster ride for the newest addition to the DVC system. In its first 12 months of sales before the Covid-19 pandemic, Riviera was doing quite well, averaging 114,399 points in sales. That monthly rate was greater than that for the Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa (104,595 points), Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows (110,688 points), and Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge (111,139 points) during their active marketing periods.

But beginning in April 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic hit, sales for Riviera plunged to record depths and averaged only 15,911 points over the next four months. However, in the last three months, coinciding with the reopening of the Parks, the resort’s sales have improved to 61,351 points a month.

Disney has declared 123 of Riviera’s 341 vacation homes for the DVC inventory. The 123 vacation homes account for 2,448,318, or 36.3%, of Riviera’s total points. Disney has about 829,000 Riviera points that are declared for members to use but have not yet been sold to the public.

The sales data includes all 11 DVC resorts at Walt Disney World, as well as Disney's Vero Beach Resort, and Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort. Point sales data is not available for the Villas at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel. The data is compiled from deeds filed by Disney Vacation Development and recorded with the Orange County (FL) Comptroller, the Indian River County (FL) Clerk of Court, and the Beaufort County (SC) Register of Deeds.
