Disney pools to be gated?

WDW Vacation Planning News

According to one rumor, all resort swimming pools at Walt Disney World will soon be surrounded by locked gates with enforced operating hours.

Walt Disney World author and blogger Kevin Yee reports on his Ultimate Orlando Blog that all Disney resort pools will soon be gated and secured during overnight hours.

Yee claims that "the pools will be fenced off and keycards/bracelets will not work to open them during the overnight hours."

Currently most Disney resort pools are ungated.  The reported plan involves building fences around all remaining pools with access granted via the soon-to-debut MagicBand RFID entry system.  Posted operating hours of approximately 7am to 11pm will be enforced, with valid MagicBands required to access all pool complexes.

Yee claims that fence construction is slated to begin in November 2013.

Walt Disney World resort pools are currently available to guests 24/7.  Feature pools have staff lifeguards on duty during daytime hours, but guests are able to swim at their own risk during unattended periods.
