DVCNews Debates: Dues payment

Disney Vacation Club offers two different methods for paying annual dues:  monthly installments or payment in a single lump sum.

The monthly installments do not include any interest or administrative fees.  However dollars must be debited from a US checking or savings account.

When paying in a lump sum, members can use credit cards, gift cards and similar payment methods in order to remit their dues obligation.  But full payment is due shortly after the new year.

DVCNews Debates: New bedding

At the recent Condo Association meetings Disney Vacation Club execs announced that resort bedding would be updated in the coming years, replacing quilted comforters with a series of sheets and blankets.  While this upgrade follows hotel industry trends, it also means higher owner dues to pay for additional labor, laundering and eventual product replacement.  With many resorts' dues increasing 4-6% for 2013, some owners are becoming more and more sensitive to the higher costs.

Disney dining reservations can be a challenge for many guests--particularly Disney Vacation Club members who may not extensively plan every visit.

What is the best approach to making dining reserations?  Do you plan more than 180 days out and make reservations immediately?  Plan closer to travel dates and take whatever is available?  Check back frequently to try and adjust locations / dates / times?  Stick with walk-up reservations?

Disney Vacation Club resorts have been described as "home away from home" accommodations.  The ownership aspect of DVC leads a strong connection between some members and their Home resorts.

But does that sense of ownership sometimes go too far?  There are stories of owners rearranging furniture in their villas.  Bathrooms and closets are used as extra sleeping space.  Sheets, blankets and other stock furnishings are replaced with preferred brands.  Holiday decorations are hung on doors, walls and balcony raiilings.

DVCNews Debates: Building the perfect resort

No Disney resort is perfect.  Even a die hard Beach Club fan can appreciate the larger rooms of Old Key West.  The Bay Lake Tower lover may long for an atmosphere similar to the BoardWalk or the seaside setting of Aulani.

But what if you could borrow elements from each DVC to build the perfect resort?  Everything from geographic location to resort amenities to in-room decor could be mixed and matched.
