In recent years Disney Vacation Club has experimented with allowing new members to purchase less than the stated minimum of 160 points.  100-point initial contracts have been offered at select resorts for more than a year and Independent Sales Agents are currently permitted to sell contracts with as little as 50 points.

Disney Vacation Club itself gives members a way to save significant dollars on their Disney accommodations.  Despite the high initial investment, over a period of 20-40 years, owners will find themselves vacationing for pennies on the dollar in comparison to Disney's cash rates for similar lodging.

But members also find ways to save beyond the cost of their accommodations.  For example, villa kitchens and laundry rooms allow members to reduce their meal budget and airline luggage costs.  Annual Pass discounts give many members attractive discounts on their theme park admission.

Disney Vacation Club sponsors a number of member-exclusive events throughout the year.  The most well attended events are the Merry Member Mixers held throughout December and the annual S.S. Member Cruise.  Past offerings have included member exclusive theme park nights, summer gatherings and Spring Training baseball packages. 

Topic:  Discuss your feelings toward member exclusive events.  Do they meet your expectations?  Should DVC offer more/different experiences?

Disney Vacation Club offers its members some flexibility in the form of the waitlist process.  The waitlist allows members to go on standby for accommodations which are not available when they first attempt to secure a reservation.

But given the fact that a resort can play an integral role in other areas of trip planning, it does not always make sense to use the waitlist.  Dining reservations, scheduled activities and even park touring plans are often driven by the resort at which one is booked.

Some Disney Vacation Club members openly discuss their DVC ownership with friends and family.  They share details of past and future trips, and may even go so far as to actively encourage others to buy into the Club.

Others take a more private approach, preferring to keep their timeshare purchase private and perhaps not even avoiding talk of trips to the Disney theme parks.
