Late-Summer 2016 Resort Refurbishment Update

A certain beach-themed resort refurbishment project is wrapping up as others are just getting under way.  Following is your update on all of the Disney Vacation Club properties scheduled for renovations.

Beach Club Villas

Disney's Beach Club Villas

No fewer than eight Disney Vacation Club properties are being refreshed throughout 2016.  Here is a quick look at the status of each resort project:

Completed
  • Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas, Jambo House - the soft goods refurbishment brought new fabrics and decor to all Jambo House villas.
  • Disney's Beach Club Villas - all rooms are scheduled to have completed renovations at this time.  Updates include new decor, twin sleeper in Deluxe Studio rooms, larger TVs and updated bathrooms.
  • Disney's BoardWalk Villas - in-room renovations begun in spring 2015 are scheduled to have completed.  All rooms feature new fabrics and decor, flooring, fifth sleeper in Deluxe Studio rooms and more.
  • Treehouse Villas - soft goods refurbishment brings new fabrics and wallcoverings to all units.

Bay Lake Tower

Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort

In-Progress
  • Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas, Kidani Village - crews are beginning work on a soft goods refurb to the Kidani villas, similar to its Jambo House companion.
  • Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort - soft goods refurbishment with updates to fabrics and flooring.  The project began in the spring with estimated completion in fall 2016.
  • Disney's Vero Beach Resort - complete refurbishment to all rooms including new decor, furniture, TVs, bathroom updates and more.  Inn rooms and a portion of the villas are now complete.  Work on remaining villas and the Beach Cottages will begin in November.  Updates to resort restaurants will be completed in the early fall 2016.
  • Disney's Wilderness Lodge - no in-room renovations are currently occurring but extensive work is being performed around the resort, including a redesign of the former Hidden Springs Pool.  On October 25, the current timeshare component will be formally renamed Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge.

Vero Beach

Disney's Vero Beach Resort

Beginning Soon
  • Villas at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa - starting in September, all villas will undergo a soft goods refurbishment with new fabrics and decor.  Project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2016.
  • Disney's Old Key West Resort - extensive renovations to all guest rooms starting in spring 2017 and lasting up to 2 years.

Keep in mind that these timelines are estimates only.  Crews typically take steps to isolate guests from renovations being performed, blocking off entire wings of a resort or individual floors.  But some disturbances may be felt by guests visiting resorts during updates.

Several months ago I was quite concerned but having just got home from WDWBCV's I have to give them their CUDO'S to a job well done, as far as we are concerned. After some serious confusion over our timely DVC reservation we were assigned one of the refurbed two bedrooms over looking the quiet pool as requested. It was nice to walk into this new 2 bedroom and I will give you our take on it pro and con. PRO: wood floors, new appliances, new carpeting, excellent bedding and incredible HUGE TV'S. The best in my opinion the bathroom ! Super nice shower with a real size entry door (thank you ) non slippery floor tile (again thank you) larger shower head and plenty of HOT water. Room colors I know will be debatable but that doesn't really concern us, they are muted and earth tone as opposed to the "Beachy" colors they once were, also now there is a deep soaking tub rather then the whirlpool. CON: Gone is the ceiling bedroom fan (sadly missed) incredibly super loud washer !!!!! (you will swear that it will take OFF !) The BIGGEST issue I believe there is the A/C, we had a total of 4 rooms; 1-2Bdrm, 2-Studios the A/C worked properly in only 2 of these rooms. It was brutal after surviving high 90's feeling like 100+something heat at the parks all you want is a good nights rest and not to wake up mid way to a muggy warm room and you can't get the temp down. Several calls to maintenance were made and several response made but it would appear that you require a A/C specialist for none of the technicians that were sent stated that they had no knowledge as to how to make the fix. In one room even the control panel was changed and that still didn't work. It appears to me with Disney's approach to go GREEN (which I applaud) your nights rest will be a warm one. It looks like they went back to those old motion detector monitors for the A/C and that's why the ceiling fans are GREATLY MISSED ! I hope that they can rethink this they will still be green. Overall the refurbishment is nice we think, some tweaks could be considered as the return of ceiling fans, the A/C control given back to their visitors and some additional clothes hooks would also be nice. My most fondest THANKS to Eden at DVC membership for making this the BEST visit we ever had.
Thank you.

We just checked into the BCV, both a 2 bedroom and a Deluxe Studio. The studio was ready first, or so the 'room ready' text said, when actually both rooms were done but for some reason we didn't get the text for the 2 bedroom. No problem to me though. It happens sometimes, and has rarely happened to us. Anyway, when they found out that we didn't get a text and I was sitting at the door with the magic band not working to let me in the room, they sent a concierge to my room pronto to let me in. I couldn't believe it! I told the guy on the phone (because I knew they were slammed with folks checking in), it was no problem for me to go back and get it all fixed but he insisted. The concierge came and showed me the room and everything. It was great to talk with her. She was really nice and helpful on getting things together for us. Anyway, I have to say, the rooms, both studio and 2 bdrm, are absolutely GREAT. Personally, I love everything about them. Some of the BC touches that were in the older rooms are gone to some degree. I'm thinking they could have kept some of them with this color scheme. However, I love the colors (which to me are beachy). They are a clean look all through. The wood tile floor (like the wilderness lodge rooms) again is a clean look instead of the carpeting in the main traffic areas. It blends in well with the grey/blue tones. The bathroom fixtures, new shower, tile, are upscale. BIG, (I mean BIG), TVs are huge in each room. Furniture is real comfortable and the new furnishings created more space in the rooms. To me, it sort of has a Grand Floridian motif. (It isn't as swanky as the GF, of course) But, with the tubs and the style of the furnishings, it reminded me of the GF model I saw years ago just scaled down. (I haven't stayed there yet.) In terms of the A/C written about above, the one in our room is like the one of old. It cooled our room so far just fine. I'll have to see what it does overnight but as of this evening, it's about to chill us out of here. I'll let you know if it does the same thing as was mentioned above.

I guess you can tell I like what they did with the refurbishment. :) This is our home resort so I'm glad that they did this update. I'm sure others will have different takes but that's mine.

Highpoint, did the Deluxe Studio have the extra sleeper chair during your September stay? The room capacity doesn't appear to have been updated yet from 4 adults to 5.

The BCV studio will be sleeping five once the entire resort has been refurbished. It has the murphy bed which is sized similar to a bunk bed. They do not have the pull out chair.

Edit: DVC might wait to label the BCV studios as sleeping five with the next release of the point charts in December or January.
