Fort Wilderness Renovation Rumored

Wilderness Lodge

This week's Walt Disney World parks update at MousePlanet.com has a story regarding rumored upgrades planned for the Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground.  What does that have to do with DVC, you might ask? Well, a couple of things, actually...

According to the MousePlanet report:

The renovation project slated to take three to five years will include a new pool area in the next year and a half, which may be inspired by the themed pool at Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort, including a slide and a hot tub. About a dozen new campsites will also be added, featuring wider and longer campsites.

So there you have your first DVC tie-in:  the new Fort Wilderness pool will reportedly be designed to mirror the pool at the Hilton Head Island DVC property.  Check out or HHI photo album for a couple of shots of the resort's main pool.

Additionally, this should come as welcome news to frequent guests of the Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge.  The Wilderness Lodge pool complex is one of the smallest Disney resort pools, despite the nearly 1000 cash and villa rooms that it services.  And to make matters worse, it's not uncommon for Fort Wilderness guests to help themselves to the Wilderness Lodge pool due to the absence of a comparable amenity at their own resort.

Here's hoping that Wilderness Lodge guests will see smaller crowds at the resort pool sometime in the next 3-5 years.
