Aulani

Construction recently began on the pool expansion and restaurant modifications at Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa in Hawai'i.

Thus far construction at Aulani is barely noticeable. None of the water features or other amenities have been impacted yet with the exception of the Starlit Hui -- Disney's nighttime Hawaiian show -- which is on hiatus until mid or late October. The Makai Preserve (Stringray Experience) is still in operation, but is scheduled to close permanently in October to accommodate an expanded pool deck.

On September 10th work began on an awning for the outdoor dining section of the Makahiki Restaurant, located on the first floor directly below the third floor lobby

At ground level temporary walls block any view of the construction.

With all the ambient noise from the pools and water play areas, it is difficult to hear any noise from the construction itself.

The most obvious sign of construction is from within the Makahiki Restaurant itself.  Black-out drapes have been placed over the windows which face the construction site. They make the inside of the restaurant darker than it normally is and block any view of the pool area.

More than half of the restaurant's tables are located outside.  The restaurant has trouble accommodating guests when it rains and when temperatures are uncomfortably high. The awning should alleviate those problems.

Inside the resort workers continue to put the finishing touches on the "Phase 3" guest rooms which are scheduled to open in January 2013.

Construction work on the pool and restaurant modifications is scheduled to run into summer 2013.
