As Walt Disney World continues its aggressive implementation of the MyMagic+ program, two important changes begin to impact theme park and resort guests.
The operational change will bring an end to automatic issuance of Key to the World cards. Throughout testing of its wrist-based MagicBand entry system, Disney resorts have continued to provide guests with the familiar 
credit card-sized keys. During testing, the Key to the World card served two purposes: it acted as a backup for the MagicBand, duplicating most of the band's functions, and it allowed guests to access the legacy mechanical FASTPASS machines in addition to scheduling FastPass+ ride times in adavance.
Within the next two weeks, Disney will end the duplication and issue only MagicBands to its hotel guests.
Key to the World cards have already been eliminated at Disney's Old Key West Resort, Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa and Disney's Wilderness Lodge. The schedule for other Disney Vacation Club resorts is as follows:
- January 13: Disney's Beach Club Villas
- January 14: Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas
- January 15: Disney's BoardWalk Villas
- January 16: Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort
- January 17: Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort
Resort guests may still request request a Key to the World card rather than a MagicBand wristband if they wish.
Additionally, on Tuesday, January 14 Disney will discontinue use of the legacy FASTPASS machines in the Magic Kingdom theme park. All park guests--those staying at Disney resorts, passholders and even day guests using Magic Your Way passes--will be on the FastPass+ system.
This move mirrors the mid-December shutdown of legacy FASTPASS at Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park.
Disney resort guests--including Disney Vacation Club members--can use the My Disney Experience website and mobile app to customize their MagicBands prior to arrival and schedule FastPass+ ride times. Offsite guests cannot currently use the MDE site or app, nor can they schedule ride times in advance. These day guests must use the in-park FastPass+ kiosks to plan ride times upon arrival.
No word on when legacy FASTPASS will be discontinued at Epcot or Disney's Hollywood Studios.
