In 2011 Disney Vacation Club introduced a number of restrictions on points purchased via the resale market. Most notably, resale points cannot be used to book most non-DVC destinations including Disney cruises.
At the time, some owners were openly critical of the move, claiming that it can only harm owners and contract resale values. Others view it as a modest perk which benefits those who buy direct.
