The Walt Disney World monorail system will experience daily shutdowns for maintenance purposes in the first part of 2014.
The Magic Kingdom monorail system is scheduled to be down from approximately 11:30am to 7:00pm daily starting on January 21, 2014. The outage impacts both the Express loop between the Transportation & Ticket Center and Magic Kingdom, as well as the Resorts loop which services Disney's Polynesian Resort, Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Disney's Contemporary Resort.
Two of the three Magic Kingdom-area resorts--the Contemporary and Grand Floridian--are now home to Disney Vacation Club developments. A DVC addition to the Polynesian is currently under construction and slated to open in 2015.
The daily closures are reportedly not linked to nearby construction efforts, rather it is due to planned maintenance work on the monorail system.
During the monorail downtime, additional buses and watercraft will be placed into service to accommodate the crowd volume. The Epcot monorail loop is not impacted by this closure.
Monorails are expected to return to full service in late March.
