Monthly Sales Update for August 2014

Financial News & Pricing

Following a very good month in July, sales of Disney Vacation Club points in August 2014 dropped to the lowest amount since monthly sales data was first tracked in July 2010. 108,259 points were sold in August, 47.4% less than the prior month.

Its not unusual for sales to fluctuate from month to month. Changes of 25% or more have happened 18 times over the last 50 months. However, the percentage drop in August is the largest single monthly decline.

Although DVC point sales were down 47.4% in August, the combined sales for July and August averaged 157,117 points per month, quite close to the 12-month sales average of 153,356 points per month.

Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa -- With 63,610 points sold in August 2014, the Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort has now sold 63.29% of its 2.5 million points. Taking into account the 2% that Disney Vacation Development must retain for itself, there are 874,976 points remaining that can be sold to the general public. It would take over 13 months for the Grand Floridian to be completely sold out if sales were to continue at the same rate as in August.

Grand Floridian and Aulani, Disney Vacation Club Villas are the only two Disney Vacation Club resorts that offer Fixed Week deeds in addition to traditional points. In July 2014, only one Fixed Week deed was sold, bringing to 233 the total number of Fixed Week deeds sold for the Grand Floridian. Fixed Week deeds account for only 5.1% of the points sold, well below the 35% cap that Disney Vacation Development stated would be the maximum that it might sell.

On August 12, 2014, Disney Vacation Development declared 12 more two-bedroom vacation homes at the Grand Floridian. 90.71% of the resort have now been declared. This means that on any given Use Day DVC members can book no more than 91.71% of the resort using points. There are still 10 two-bedroom vacation homes that are undeclared at the Villas at Grand Floridian.

Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas -- Although it is no longer being actively marketed, Disney Vacation Development sold 20,976 points for Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas in August 2014. It also reacquired 11,127 points during the month due to foreclosures and exercising its Right of First Refusal on resale transactions. Including all of the points its reacquired over the years, Disney Vacation Development still has about 150,000 Animal Kingdom Villas' points it can sell to the public.

The sales data includes all eight DVC resorts at Walt Disney World, as well as Disney's Vero Beach Resort and Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort. Point sales data is not available for the Villas at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel or for Aulani, Disney Vacation Club Villas. The data is compiled from deeds filed by Disney Vacation Development and recorded with the Orange County (FL) Comptroller, the Indian River County (FL) Clerk of Court, and the Beaufort County (SC) Register of Deeds.
