Monthly Sales Update for March 2014

Financial News & Pricing

As the sole destination for a Walt Disney World Disney Vacation Club purchase, sales of the Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa remain strong.

Of the eight Disney Vacation Club resorts located at Walt Disney World, only one - the Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa - is being actively marketed by Disney Vacation Development at this time. Not surprisingly, sales of Disney Vacation Club points are currently not as high as when there were three resorts being marketed at the same time.

DVC Direct Sales

In March 2014, Disney Vacation Development sold 136,598 Disney Vacation Club points, a drop of 13.1% compared to February 2014 when 157,125 points were sold. With 97,220 points sold, sales for the Grand Floridian accounted for 71.2% of all the points sold for the month.

Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa -- On March 12, 2014, sales for the Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian topped the one million point mark. The 97,220 points sold in March 2014 brought the Grand Floridian's total sales to 1,063714 points, which represents 42.2% of the resort's 2.5 million points. Since only 98% of a resort's total points can be sold to the general public, there are still about 1.4 million points that can be sold to the public.

Although Disney Vacation Development has announced that up to 35% of the Grand Floridian might be sold as Fixed Weeks, only 6.8% of the points and 209 of the 7,292 deeds sold so far have been Fixed Week deeds. Sales of Fixed Week deeds have slowed considerably with only two Fixed Week deeds sold in March 2014. However, one of the Fixed Week deeds sold in March 2014 actually represented a switch by an owner from one Fixed Week to another more expensive week. Since sales began, Disney Vacation Development has reacquired three Fixed Week deeds and in each case the owner purchased another Fixed Week deed for a larger accommodation or more expensive week.

Disney Vacation Development has declared 75.8% of the Grand Floridian for the DVC inventory. As of March 31, 2014, it had about 848,000 declared-but-unsold points in its inventory. If sales continue at the rate of about 100,000 points a month, it may be several months before another declaration will have to be made.

Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas -- Since January 2014, Disney Vacation Development is no longer actively marketing Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas. Only 18,717 points were sold, the fewest since December 2010 when 13,249 points were sold.

Although it is considered to be "sold out," Disney Vacation Development still has about 208,000 Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas points that it could sell to the general public. However, since it can use some or all of these points to fund cash reservations or for other marketing purposes, it is not possible to know how many points are actually available for prospective buyers.

The sales data includes all eight DVC resorts at Walt Disney World, as well as Disney's Vero Beach Resort and Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort. Point sales data is not available for the Villas at Disney's Grand California Hotel or for Aulani, Disney Vacation Club Villas. The data is compiled from deeds filed by Disney Vacation Development and recorded with the Orange County (FL) Comptroller, the Indian River County (FL) Clerk of Court, and the Beaufort County (SC) Register of Deeds.
