Saratoga Springs room refurb details

Written by Tim Krasniewski on . Posted in Saratoga Springs News

The room refurbishment at Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa has been talked-about for nearly a year.  Finally the process has begun and we have a few details on what to expect.

Don't expect changes quite as substantial as the recent remodels at Disney's Old Key West Resort andSaratoga Springs refurb - pillows Disney's BoardWalk Villas.  The Saratoga Springs project is classified as a "soft goods" refurbishment, which typically does not involve any major construction work or wholesale furniture replacement.

Among the items slated for replacement are villa drapes, carpets, linens and accessories like the horse-themed throw pillows pictured here.  A brief mention in the new issue of Disney Files Magazine suggests new bedspreads are planned, depicting "horses in a forest inhabited by characters from The Fox and the Hound."

All Saratoga Springs guest rooms were previously upgraded to include flat panel TVs.

The resort-wide soft goods refurbishment is expected to run through the spring of 2013.

They may have said the bedspread (not duvet????) will be themed from characters from Fox and Hound but one of those horse pillows really looks like Maximus from Tangled.

We'll be staying at SSR for the first time in April. I can't decide if I want an room that hasn't under been refurbished just so I can seen the difference when we stay there a second time.

I was a little disappointed that they are doing bedspreads. I'm just not a fan of those old fashioned germ laden soft goods. Most hotels and resorts are switching to duvets which are easily replaced after each guest.

Hmmmm, I dont know about characters in the decor of SSR...I'm not thrilled with the idea...I like that SSR feels a little more ''grown up'' than some of the other resorts.

I got confirmation that the bedspreads at SSR are simply being replaced with new bedspreads--no duvets.

That is a little disappointing, although I assume there is some logic behind the move. I don't think there's any doubt that duvets cost more. Laundering itself generates added labor & expense and they probably need to be replaced more frequently than bedspreads. And honestly I doubt that most chains with duvets religiously clean them between guests.

It's hard to really voice an opinion without knowing the cost associated with either option. But with members often taking DVC to task for every penny that dues increase, I guess it's hard to blame them for choosing the path with the lowest long-term financial impact.

from SS, and stayed in a 1BR with the cute pillows, heavier-than-sin bedspread (which promptly went on the closet shelf), and the most uncomfortable couch I have ever sat on! The cushions sink behind the front support board--they are too thin/need two cushions to create a buffer...perhaps the new bed inside is comfortable, but sitting on the couch is not, as well as the fabric being extremely rough. Others at the pool had the same comments/complaints. Who orders these items and how are they pretested? Sad that all the money spent on this couch is "wasted" in my mind.

Sorry to hear that the refurb didn't fix everything.

We recently stayed at AKV and were surprised at the weight of the bedspread. I still don't understand why they are not converting the bedding to the duvet and sheets look anyway. It looks great at Aulani and the sheets are cleaned every full cleaning. Who knows how often the wash the bedspreads. I read once a month on another forum, but I've only seen it done once.

BTW the couch was reupholstered and is not new. But it doesn't sound like the couch is even useable for sitting on. I would recommend that you write a letter to DVC Member Satisfaction. They won't know we're unhappy unless we tell them. This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
