Disney Tests In-Room Meal Kits at Saratoga Springs

Disney Vacation Club is trying to make it easier for members to use kitchens in their villas.

Artist's Palette

For a limited time, Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa is selling kits to guests interested in preparing their own in-room meals.  The kits feature Italian cuisine, including Rigatoni pasta with tomato sauce, sausage, portabella mushrooms, parmesan and fresh basil.  Also included are a large garden salad, garlic bread sticks and baking instructions.

The kit is designed to serve a family of four and retails for $49 plus tax.  Kits may be purchased in the marketplace at Artist's Palette.

Note that the full kitchen of a One, Two or Three Bedroom villa are required to prepare the meal.

So $50 plus tax for $12 worth of groceries. If it's going to be that overpriced, I'll just let Disney cook it.

Can't imagine this doing well since the reason most folk do not fully utilize their kitchens is specifically due to the vacation factor (let someone else cook).
I do use mine, but would much rather rent a car and shop for my own fresh ingredients, drinks and snacks to keep everyone happy.

I order a kosher meal, due to religious dietary restrictions. For $15 I can get, for example, brisket with vegetables, already warmed.
It seems like Disney is charging a lot for a little convenience.

I am lucky that I live in FL and drive to Disney World - so we bring mainly breakfast items and snacks - or we stop at Publix on the way in and pick up lunch items, fresh fruit, etc. Dinner is usually out - don't want to cook for the entire time we are there. But $50.00 for what they are offering seems a bit high.
