Disney shopping app brings DVC, resort merchandise home

A new Disney application for smartphones and tablets brings unprecedented access to theme park and resort merchandise.

Disney Shop

There was a time when the only way to purchase theme park and resort memorabelia was to sacrifice valuable vacation time browsing the Disney shops and outlets.  Those days are now firmly in the past.  Thanks to the Shop Disney Parks app, folks can now browse a wide variety of Walt Disney World merchandise from virtually anywhere.

The app inventory includes not only park and attraction merchandise but Disney Vacation Club items and resort-specific gear.

Orders placed via the app are delivered right to guests' homes.  In the future, Disney plans to expand the app to support delivery to theme park Guest Relations locations or directly to a resort for guests who are staying on Walt Disney World property.

Those visiting Walt Disney World can use the map locator feature to locate and purchase items in-person.  Selecting an item and tapping the "Find on Map" button will display a list of shops where the item is carried, along with its stock status.

In addition to Walt Disney World merchandise, the app features a small collection of items unique to Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort and Disney's Vero Beach Resort.  Items from Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line and Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa are not supported at this time.

The Shop Disney Parks app is available for Apple and Android devices.

I downloaded the app and played around with it a bit. The search feature on the app identifies most items, but it takes some practice to learn its quirks. I searched for 'DVC' items and, at first, got no hits. I then searched for 'Disney Vacation Club' and found some items. I then searched for Disney pins, but when I searched for 'pin' and ended up with several piñatas (I didn't even know that Disney sold piñatas).

I downloaded it played around with it. I looked at some polo shirts on it was amazed that at $60 ~ $99 a lot of the shirts were sold out. Sorry folks but I am not giving anybody that much money for a shirt.

Did anybody notice the new photo pass update they received for the My Disney app. We're not planning on getting the memory maker next month but I will get a photopass card just to try this out in the park and see how it works. I wonder if it will play the short video also you get at Seven Dwarfs mine.

If you have a MagicBand, you don't need to get a PhotoPass card. PhotoPass photographers can scan your MagicBand to link your photos. Attraction photos/videos should automatically link if you are wearing a MagicBand.

Thanks for that info. Now I don't have to lose another PP card.
