Member creates website to vent about perks

General DVC News

So KenPotrock.com is a thing...

On April 4, 2016, Disney Vacation Club revealed that individuals purchasing their ownership via the resale marketplace would no longer be eligible for most owner perks.  The move was hotly debated among owners, with one creating a website to voice his displeasure.

Website KenPotrock.com--named for Disney Vacation Club's senior vice president and general manager--displays an open letter from one owner to Mr. Potrock.  The Orlando Sentinel identified the owner as Timothy Dalesandro, a 48-year old owner from Texas.

In the letter, penned on April 9--less than a week after the policy change--Dalesandro is highly critical of the move:

"I feel as though in some ways you don't understand the value of your product, what makes DVC so special. Obviously, you've never received your long awaited and anticipated membership card in the mail! If you ever had, you would not be denying that essential magic. Honestly, refusing to give purchasers a membership card is a cheap shot. It's like reserving "Welcome Home!" to members* and "You Again?!" to purchasers."

The Sentinel reached out to Disney Vacation Club regarding the site and they offered no comment.

Individuals who only own Disney Vacation Club points purchased resale after April 4 will not receive access to DVC's "Membership Extras."  Among the perks covered by this umbrella are Member events which provide free access to the Magic Kingdom theme park, Disney's Animal Kingdom and Typhoon Lagoon.  Restricitons also apply to admission to DVC's members-only lounge at Epcot, and a variety of shopping, dining and entertainment discounts.

DVC's minimum point purchase typically starts at 50 points for new owners and 25 for current members adding-on.  Any number of direct purchase points currently qualifies an owner for the "Membership Extras."
