Disney Vacation Club president Jim Lewis has been named Chairman of the American Resort Development Association--a trade group representing organizations in the timeshare industry. Lewis takes over at a time when overall timeshare sales are down due to the suffering global economy while DVC is expected to see growth in FY 2009.
The Disney Vacation Club resorts aren't the only timeshares within a stone's throw of the Magic Kingdom. Look closely on your next trip up Buena Vista Drive and you'll spot a nondescript sign pointing toward the Bonnet Creek Resort.
Bonnet Creek sits on a plot of land which Walt Disney was unable to acquire during his spending spree in the 1960s. It has since become home to a Wyndham timeshare resort, among other things.

The Orlando Sentinel is reporting that a Florida bill impacting the tax status of timeshare accommodations is moving forward. The bill--designed to exempt timeshare trades and incentive stays from normal hospitality taxes imposed by state and local governments--passed the House Finance & Tax Council by a vote of 14-0.
The Orlando Sentinel is reporting that Florida lawmakers are actively pursuing legislation which would protect timeshare developers and owners from future added tax assessments.
Today it was announced that the InterContinental Hotels Group has formed an alliance with Orange Lake Resorts to create Holiday Inn Club Vacations. The club will launch in December 2008 with a 2412 villa resort in Orlando, Florida.
