Default DVC incentives updated; up to $12 savings at Bay Lake Tower

In addition to its new Disney Dream cruise incentive, Disney Vacation Club has also updated incentive pricing for those who would prefer to save some cold hard cash on their DVC points. Among the noteworthy changes are tiered pricing for the Bay Lake Tower with incentives up to $12 off per point.

So unless I misread, VGC's pricing remains a flat $15 off but the other 3 actives changed? There seemed to be a lot of speculation elsewhere about a possible push for VGC to get it sold out before Aulani sales begin...

Ah idle speculation....

Perhaps on the webcasts?

That's real tempting, especially with the increased discount they are giving out to us until April. But this trip to London & Paris is costing me more than I thought it would, so I think I must pass..

Default Incentive question

Newbie (buyer on the fence) in need of help... So, is the $12 incentive in addition to the promotion our guide told us about where they'll make our membership retroactive to 4/09 so that we have an "extra" year of points? Or are they mutually exclusive?
Also, does anyone know whether they'd charge us the '09 maintenance on those "extra" points, or are they free and clear, if you will?

Many thanks and apologies if these are really overly basic questions.

My best guess: You generally should NOT be charged maintenance on the 2009 points (annual dues are calendar year based, not Use Year, and that calendar year is over... I've added on twice and NOT been charged dues for the previous calendar year despite getting that UY's points) and I expect you could probably get those 2009 points AND the discount, but you'd have to ask your guide to be sure. You probably also should attend the webcast and see if there are better deals. Are you registered for it? Perhaps ask your guide to write up contracts under these prices but then tell QA (you are supposed to call them (NOT your guide) within 48 hours of getting the paperwork, assuming you do it by mail at least) you'll wait to sign everyhting until after the WebCast. Hedge your bets!

Many thanks for the great idea! I hadn't registered for the Webcast, but I will now!

Dues are always charged on a calendar year basis and pro-rated according to when you buy. So if you purchase on April 1st you'll pay about 3/4 of the 2010 dues. If you buy on July 1st you'll pay about 1/2 of the 2010 dues. It really doesn't matter what Use Year you get and if you receive 2009 points.

If you buy a Use Year that's still in its 2009 year (like April or June) you should get the 2009 points plus whatever other incentives are being offered.

Good advice on the webcast.
