So I went back to work today....This is the split shift weekend, once a week we have to work 4 hrs Fri morn and 5 hours Sat morn...So I was out @ noon...Not only did I not get in trouble, I got a thank you note & a scratch ticket from my supervisor for getting al 100%'s on my monitors...And! My manager said now that they hired 3 new night people, she asked me if i wanted a few day shifts So now I only have 2 12-9 shifts...the other 3 are 8-5.

I'm feeling better today, emotionally...Physically I feel sleepy, lol...And my toe is still sore, but no big deal, and just some general achyness...Going crazy not walking or getting on tredmill

Ok, so, once I heal, I want to start training again, even though right now i dont have anything to train for I have 6 mile walk for charity in June, I dont need to train for that.
Will train eventually for the OUC HOWEVER! I need suggestions...I want a plan for a walk/run combo or a running for beginners plan.
Any ideas on what to follow?

DG, I love the idea of you going for a HM!! Your plan though might cause some problems. You need scale back weeks, like one weekend do 8, next 6, then 8, 10, then 6. This allows your body to recover--anything else invites injury. There are lots of beginning HM plans out there. If I was not on my phone I would paste some. Take a peak at a few and you will see how they kinda flow. You also need to be running about 3 days a week at least.

  • Scale back and forth: CHECK; I'll look at other training plans that incorporate this! Injury invitations = BAD; too many Peacocks have had them lately; don't want to add to the count!
  • For meeting 3 days a week, would my planned 3.25 each on Mon & Thur count for two of them? (plus hopefully my 15 min. TM on Tue & Fri will get at least a LITTLE credit for something... )

The "Half Marathon Training Schedule for Runners and Walkers" training schedule looks like an interesting place to start rethinking from. My first thought is swap his Sunday distances for my first draft sat. ones and POOF, new plan! OK, maybe that's over-simplifying, but it allows for me incorporating my off-day cross-training and gives 30 minute runs on 2 weekdays, like I want!!!

http://www.jeffgalloway.com/training/half_marathon.html

17 weeks from race date puts me starting in mid-May, so I have even more time than that for my schedule!!!

Yes, DG that will work! As long as you are getting good cross training in. I am excited for you. :-)

I was looking @ that Galloway training schedule last night, too tough for me, need something for begineers, I cant run 30 minutes right now
Maybe I'm crazy and I should stick to walking but when I saw all those people @ the Princess, I was so jealous, I wanna run Some of them were much bigger than me, if they can do it, I can do it!

Don't beat yourself up about walking and not running. You accomplished something that most people wouldn't even think about starting. It doesn't matter if you walked or ran across the finish line, it's that you crossed!!

Athena, have you done the couch to 5K from start to finish? It will help you build a base to run for 30 minutes straight. I think week 6 is when you run for 20 minutes . It is what I started on and it lead to a natural progression into longer runs.

I think that if you do that, it will put you in late May with a good start. From that build up to about 20-30 miles a week for a few months, then work your way up to a little more miles then start a half mile plan that will put you right into the OUC.

IMO,Right now your plan should be to build a consistant base of mileage per week.

YOu can do it!
