We bought shortly after 9/11, when I was at WDW on a solo trip at a value resort. DH couldn't (wouldn't?) get the time off from work. He was such a workaholic, and still is to some, but a lesser, extent. Mostly, I wanted to force him to take his vacation time in a nice resort. For me it was just "own a little shred of WDW? I'm so there!" Now Guy has 4 Disney trips in the next year (well, one's to HHI) and couldn't be happier about it. And he really does relax and have a vacation like he never did before. Me, I'm just happy sipping my coffee on the balcony (I never stayed at a resort with a balcony before DVC).

I originally toured DVC about 20 years ago when it first opened...didn't have any money then... went back to WDW almost on a yearly basis...bought a resale at Orange Lake and continued to go back to WDW.

About 7 years ago, went to the Grand Floridian, it was wonderful, until I checked the bill the day before fully checking out , I forgot about the additional taxes that you have to pay when you stay in a hotel!! I decided to stop into DVC the next day and bought right away!!

So been a DVC owner for about 7 years!!

Today I was tempted to do a cash reservation for an upcoming stay so we wouldn't have to move during our 5N stay. We bought in '08 and I haven't checked the room prices - the DVC discounted price was $326.+ = temptation ELIMINATED.

On our 5th visit in 5 years to Disney Resorts we "took the tour" in1994.We saw the investment as being always able to access WDW in the future without growing hotel bills! We were correct, and have NEVER regretted the decision for one second. We also "caught" addonitis!! which allowed for many extended and varied vacations in the last 18 years.Looking forward to the next 32!!!!!!....... The money. Our first stay ay WDW was, um, expensive...(that was a 2bed, AKV concierge)

We are not vacation planners (Paris 07 tickets were purchased 27 hrs before departure, regular random road trips of "pick a direction, let's see where we go" (Canada if DH is driving), etc).

But that was pre-kids. DH is a teacher, so we already have zero flexibility in vacation timing. Once our kids are old enough for school, we will have less.

DVC basically allows us to plan a destination (which is about as much effort as we can muster for vacation planning) and a time, and we can relax.

We're on our first DVC trip now. Booked at 4 mos out: 1 bed lake view BLT x 3 nights + studio savanna view AKV Jambo x 3 nights. Have decided its 1 bed from now on for us, this studio (despite the view) is driving me batty! I miss the kitchen and utensils.

DH loves that there is no housekeeping other than Days 4 & 8, unless you pay extra. He loves "free" laundry. We both love relaxing breakfast in the room (because Disney wants insane money for oatmeal). I love relaxing and knowing that, while our Disney Visa bill will be high (Castle Couture I hate you), we don't have an epic room charge waiting for us. We both love that we don't have to do it all or have some epic plan for Disney because we will be back.

It took us 6 months to decide from interest to purchase. Addonitis struck in February (DH doesn't like borrowing points and the November trip is a bundle o points).

Now, where is MY keychain? I got a tote that I think is ugly (kids use it to stuff random things in). I could really use a keychain though...
