I have a little more than 50 shares as well. I have had it since I was a little kid. it splt once which doubled my shares, and then I also am on the Dividend re-investment plan as well so I get another share of stock every 5 years or so.
if you aren't doing it you should it is really nice, and then you don't get some losy check for $3 every year. Just call shareholder services and they can enroll you right over the phone.

Wow-Disney Stock!! –

Just got listed as one of the top 10 stocks to buy and hold by MSN. So maybe I actually did something half-way smart in the big financial market. A few months after 9-11, I bought 50 shares of Disney stock, near its all-time low. So I did the "buy" part, and the "hold" part, I don't expect to be a problem-I have no plans to sell, barring a catastrophic need for money. Anyone else have Disney stock?

Buy and Hold........no.
But I Buy and Sell DIS quite often.
It's been on a heck of a run since last summer.
As of last week I'm not holding any, but I'm watching for pullbacks to add again.
Disney's a pretty solid company to own.
I think most segments of their business have bright prospects.
Plus it's just fun to own "The Mouse". (Makes those massive vacation expenditures seem more acceptable)

Both my son's were in college. I had just sold a piece of property I owned for 40K'ish. I believe DIS was at $12.50. I almost bought 4000 shares but I didn't want to tap home equity line or do PLUS loans for tuition, so I put 10K in something earning in the 8% range now and passed on the DIS.
I really can't kick myself in the butt over it, I knew DIS stock had to rebound eventually but I know I made the right decision paying tuition.

I have some in my IRA and I am also in the ESPP (Employee Stock Purchase Program) although i don't buy new shares (except for the div reinvestments). I started in the ESPP in September 2001, after the stocks were split.

Disney share - like many others - often split when the per share price climbs high. One reason is perception: When the stock hits $100.00 per share, people THINK it's too expensive. Do a 3-1 split & now the selling price LOOKS inexpensive at $33.33. Of course, the $1.00 per share dividend is now 0.33, but the stock looks more attractive at 33 than 100.
