Seems to me that there is a lot to work with here and should be interesting to see what Disney comes up with.
BTW I think the original Avatar was the 1992 animated film FernGully.

I loved AVATAR, especially the story line. I'm a tree hugger so there ya go.
Some of the killing was hard for me to take because it just seemed too real,
not at all like some action movies where you never feel that the violence is real,
more just special effects ya know?
We have direct TV so I'm not sure what channel or anything , but AVATAR is on TV and free
as of about a month ago....so if you have cable with a lot of channels, its 'free'.
I think an AVATAR themed park /ride/section would be really interesting, and that Imagineers could
have a hey day with it!

Well I personally am disappointed, because I am not a fan of avatar. That being said if it's well done I am sure I'll enjoy it. However if I was choosing I'd pick Toy Story Land ala Hong Kong Disneyland. There's plenty of animals (including a dinosaur) in that movie.

Well I did, the 4th of July speech sold me, but I have to live with DH reminding me constantly that it was unbelievable that a fighter pilot could outmaneuver the alien space ship. Let alone that a virus could defeat the mother ship. But at least the locals weren't using bow and arrows.

My wife and I watched it today. I really liked it, my DW did not. Visually it was amazing, and while the story was totally predictable, I still enjoyed it. I can see what they could do with the environment of the land, but what kind of attractions can they create? A mountain banshee (the dragon like flying creatures) are an obvious choice.

I agree - the story line is not why I liked Avator - I was just blow away by the visuals - so beautiful.“To get something you never had, you have to do something you never did.” ~Unknown

Since the announcement, I've watched Avatar twice on HBO on Demand.
OMG!!!
What a VISUAL FEAST!!
Whether you like the story or not, there is some SERIOUS POTENTIAL here for the Imaginears!

I know this post is 2 months old but I had heard over the radio one day about this but I thought it was a rumor and nothing special or truw so I didn't look it up. I liked the movie and loved the visual effects but I am not sure how this will pan out in WDW. either they make what was going to be "beastly kingdom" into Avatar land or just reuse useless stuff. like Ken said "primevil Hurl" I am not sure how this will work out for them as all I see happening is having cm's on stilts with blue body paint...

The more I think about the Disney Imagineers would be very good about bringing Pandora to life. I can see the Tree of Souls now. As to rides I could see a ride that gives you the feeling of riding one of Ikrans. And having characters on stilts as Pandorans would be cool. But what else would there be for the guests? I can't imagine it so maybe that's why I'm not an imagineer. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

I went for a run today while I listened to wdwtoday and I was listening to the episode in which they were talking about it. I also think they would do something with riding ikrans or flying over pandora. maybe something with face painting or involving little kids to become part of the "village."
