I suspect that when the DVC started in 1991, Disney's plan was to evenly distribute the Vacation Club points among the eight Use Years. When you look at the distribution at Old Key West, the first DVC resort, all of the UYs are within a narrow range from 10.5% to 14.6%. However, it appears that Disney quickly realized that there was no need to have an even distribution of points at subsequent resorts. At HHI, February and April have more than three times the number. BLT has an even greater skewed distribution with the February accounting for over 36% of all of the points at that resort.
I hope to chart the distribution for Vero Beach. I have most of it completed, but I'm trying to confirm that I have accounted for all the Units that have been declared at Vero Beach. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be able to compile UY distribution charts for the Villas at Grand California or for Aulani. The deed recording websites for Orange County, California and the Hawaii Bureau of Conveyances do not permit individuals from accessing records without paying a fee.

Distribution of DVC points by Use Year –

Disney Vacation Club points are distributed among eight different Use Years. In theory, one would expect that distribution to be fairly equitable. But is it?

I bought BLT in March 2011 but one of the incentives was that I received 100 Bonus Points at signing with a September 2010 Use Year. I was thinking they were offering this incentive to balance out use years.

DVD has offered "bonus" points or "double" points to new buyers at BLT since late 2009. I find it interesting that DVD offered you a September 2010 UY -- about six months before you bought. Currently, I'm seeing a large number of new Master Contracts with the October 2010 UY -- still about six months in the past. But back in December 2009 and January 2010, DVD was offering new buyers the February 2009 UY -- about 10 or 11 months in the past.
Over the next three months, if DVD continues to offer new buyers about six months of "bonus/double" points, then we should see more deeds sold with a December UY. I suspect DVD will have no qualms about assigning the December UY to new buyers at AKV, even though the December UY is three times (25.5%) larger at AKV than the next largest UY (June - 8.5%).
BTW, Welcome Home, architourist! We've stayed at BLT twice already, and we think its a great resort.

Thank you for this information.
It's very useful to know the supply side of the equation for UYs.

The months with the highest percentage of use years are the 4 months after the months in which there are no use years and to me logically they would have the most.

I didn't see Vero Beach listed in the article and I'm curious about it's distribution of points. Opps never mind...I just re-read the above and see it's being worked on! thanks!!
