If you're not feeling well, either from something viral/infectious or an acute injury, I would say it is better to take it easy and let your body recover. Otherwise, you may be paying for it (with interest) later. I know it is hard for me to skip on scheduled runs/work-outs, but sometimes it is the best thing to do.
I'm not able to run well first thing in the morning, either (I always feel I need to be awake an hour or two, otherwise I can't find my stride). I'd prefer to run mid-afternoon (that's my sweet time), but it's just too hot these days to do it.

Huh- maybe I need to reconsider my perspective, especially factoring in weather and what not! Thanks for that insight.
Also, I'm glad to hear you didn't feel beat down!!!
--------
What to do tonight... I really don't like exercise twice within 12 hours or so back to back when I can avoid it; I think I do better with more time in between. So since I ran last night after work, I did nothing this morning (that and trying to get extra sleep to continue recovery from cold/flu- don't wanna' relapse and DW is better but still not great so there are refreas of cross-reinfection!). Schedule says weights + short ellip. Hand still sore but thankfully improving. I am going to a luncheon tomorrow, so I want to be done with my long run as close to 10 AM as possible {Ack; I often like to sleep in until around then on weekends!}, which means trying to start close to 8.
So, do I:
- Ellip 30 after work, no weights? [Leaning this way, perhaps not pushing myself to the maximum resistance intervals I often include.]
- Break out the new Yoga DVD despite having NEVER tried any yoga before?
- Attempt scheduled weights and see if my hand explodes?

- Sit on the couch and feel lazy about it, skipping a THIRD day this week in the process? (Already did nothing Sunday {schedule conflicts} & Wednesday {sick}
)
Anyone got any suggestions? (Rozzie- I'm afraid "Exercise in the morning every day like you know is probably best" wouldn't be too helpful at this point...
)

Sophia: “The race was underway. I start off slow. I’m cagey, like a panther, but when the time is right I pounce! The crowd is on its feet: ‘Sophia! Sophia!’ I could see the finish line; it was only 200-300 yds away. And then, it happened—what every runner dreads. I hit the wall.”
Dorothy: “Ah, ma, you ran out of steam?”
Sophia: “No, I actually hit a wall. They put up a new Wendy’s on Collins Ave.”

No, the bills never stop. And they never will. My 2 cents of advice is to always remember how uncomfortable you feel right now. When you are comfortable later, make back-up plans (save v. spend) to avoid ever having to feel that way again.
To help with perspective, at least you don't have a wife & kids to support. They drain you quicker than anything!

Nono...tho I've seen it before, I love the dance video! I don't think I ever saw it with music tho, so that was even better!
MM...In the 'good ole days' (the 90's) anyone could get a job paying $20 an hour....but now its just not like that now. Give yourself some slack and just keep on keeping on. It will come.
Gail, your grandson is so adorable...and fast too. TRuly the joy of running!
Rozzes (plural) not sure how you run in the humidity, but its awesome.
Jen: I run on the treadmill all the time: in winter, too much snow and then there is my general tendency to fall alot...so I need handles to hold onto!!!!! Plus I like to watch TV while I run to occupy my brain.

So I did my "easy 30 min" (slower pace and not maxing out resistance) on the ellip and no weights or crunches. Eating some dinner now; hopefully long run tomorrow will go well!
Everyone have a great weekend!!!

Great tempo workout this morning. Started out a little tight in the calf, but it all worked out. Read a great article last night my yoga instructor gave me. How to incorporate the breathing of yoga into running. Holding hard poses for 10 breaths to build endurance. How to breath through tightness in a run, etc. Seemed to help! Had 4.5 miles at 10K pace, and averaged below my targeted pace.
DG, can't wait for you to try out yoga video. It has done wonders for me.
Had a beer tonight with dinner. Not on cheat night either. I had to, it was survival. Out with my mother, brother, niece and nephew. Ordered grilled shrimp and scallops though at the place I always order fried shrimp poboy. Small victories. 5lb away from race weight. Going to run 5 tomorrow and 16 on Sunday. Hopefully I can run the beer off!
MM, is there anything you can do in the mean time while getting hired on somewhere? I hated waiting tables, but it makes me feel better I can always fall back on it if ever in a job crunch. Wishing you and Mr nono the speediest of job searches!

Ran my first mile in Nike Free's. Different! I can see how they make your feet so strong, I could feel my feet working more with every step. Kinda cool to think of the benefit I will get. Then I put on my new LunarFly's. Like them still. Mr Roz got him a pair too. They are very flexible, springy but light. I think they are good base pace shoe, but will need something less cushy for speedwork.
Nono, these shoes look great too. They are the one's that Kenny was talking about on FB. (he is top 3 runner in our area, runs sub 3:00 marathons, and is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet) http://www.slowtwitch.com/Products/R...2010_1190.htmlLast edited by Rozzie; 07-10-2010 at 07:37 AM.

Today's goal: Run 10 miles
Actual: Did 10.15 miles @ 11:26 average pace!!!
It was 63 degrees with 96 % humidity a little before I started, and 75° / 59% when I sat back at my computer. So another new max distance training run is successfully on the books for me.
Even a fraction faster than race pace; shorter distance, but still a good thing.
Left little toe a touch sore twoard the end, but looks OK (maybe slightly red) so I'm not really worried about; hopefully nothing and just a fluke!
Garmin shows my finish sprint as 343.29 feet (gotta' love hundreths of a foot with ~18 foot estimated accuracy!
) in 18.51 seconds for 4:44 average pace; 12.6 MPH avg / 13.7 max. Nice to still have that left in me at the end (even if it isn't a PR).
Off for a quick shower and a radio club luncheon...
& nono-I'm confused; I thought Mr. was worried about losing his job; is that still case or did it actually happen?
Either way, GL to MM, the nonos & Athenas and all those looking for new or better employment and or just trying to keep what work they have!
Later all.
