Yay for Coop!!! I just told Sean and he was really excited. He's more excited about finally getting to meet him than the actual race, but it's a start

I just did the treadmill this morning for the 1st time in oh about 2-3 years Holy shin splints! I have really high arches so I don't think that helps. I did a mile walking in 18m 50s, which I'm not happy about but I did finish and did a total of 25 minutes on it. I do have to take into account falling off once when I closed my eyes and let go and later getting my head phones tangled with DH's that he left on the top of the machine Did I ever mention how uncoordinated I am???

OH MY GOD...I just fell off my chair laughing...the image is just too much!
Stimp...I suggest maybe you drink a few beers before getting on the treadmill.

I haven't signed up but I am planning on doing the 5k with the 'girls' here.
I haven't even thought of booking a room...hoping there are some runners who aren't going with family and want to share accommodations. Anyone?????

Roz...I think I have been doing it more like you were...trying to lose weight and getting frustrated when I didn't . But before my leg injury I was walking fast (4.5mph) every day on the damn treadmill and nothing was happening re weight loss. Now, I 'm walking for a different reason...trying to restrenghten my injured leg which has nerve damage PLUS trying to walk faster without that irregular heartbeat kicking in. for my age, I'm not supposed to go over 120beats per minute but dang....just walking 4mph gets it up to 140 so I guess that means I am WAY out of condition. As long as it doesn't jump from 60-250 and back again, I think I'm ok, but I've been trying to biofeedback the a-fib stuff even tho the docs say it can't be done. (You know how I LOVE to prove docs wrong!) What I've found is I can control my heart if I do walks in one mile spurts instead of all at once. So for me, the 'new' workout is to try to get my heart rate down while creeping the mph up. I guess that means I'm working out for FITNESS.

No one asked my opinion, but I think kids probably walk 10miles a day. They run, jump, twist, turn , wriggle and wiggle and fidget and twirl....I think all of them could do the 5k without any trouble whatsoever. Of course there might have to be a kitchen sink sunday waiting for them at the end to keep them focused! Anyhow, my 2 cents.

If you want to know approximately how fast you're walking jiggerj, I think you could set the treadmill to 3mph for your warmup and then slowly increase it to see where your stride is the most comfortable. For me, slower is somewhat harder than faster because I have longer legs and I have to shorten my steps otherwise. I was watching Mamma Mia yesterday while treadwalking and noticed a couple of the songs were perfect for 3.7-4.0mph if I walked in beat. That was a fun realization. Maybe I should pick out songs that make me walk at 4.0 put them on a n IPOD and then I can just walk to the music and not have to worry about speed!!!!!!! HA!

I'm still having to walk in slippers or winter Crocs...no tennis shoes for me. But I've pulled out my tennis skirts which are PERFECT for double duty. I like the way it feels when I walk in them.

So am I missing anyone from the 5k family walk in Jan?: Soozay, Jiggerj, Stimpy and moi????????????

Stimpy....so glad to hear that there's someone out there as coordinated as me! Thanks for the laugh!!!! As far as the time/mile ratio....that's about where I am...but I keep telling myself that I'll be faster by January...I am only just beginning....I also don't want to super overdo my workouts and end up hurting myself...that's why I just started doing the walking thing, and then maybe by the end of the week start doing the Couch-2-5K thing.

CB....I hope you make the 5K! I have a feeling that it's going to be 3 miles of laughing...MY kind of 5K! Mr. Soozaay (Harry) will be joining us, too...but he'll fit right in with us fast-walker/runners!

OK, it took me to page 184, but I'm convinced finally that this guy who wrote the book I'm reading is worth following. The book is called Brain Training for Runners and it is only 208 pages of "Introduction." The book goes to p. 554 before the index. What's between pages 209-554? Training plans -- everything from the 5K to the marathon, and I think there's three levels of plans for each major race distance. I've decided I'm going to follow his plan (with a couple week modification to accomodate our Oct. WDW trip) to train for the Rehoboth Marathon.

Congrats to everyone making race plans! It's so nice to have things on the schedule to shoot for...sure makes the training more relelvant!!!

STIMPY -- shin splits: I seem to be getting a little bit of that on the TM too. Sooo, the "med tent" recommendation is to sit with your feet on the floor and raise and lower your toes 10-12x each. This is referred to as "toe taps." Seems to help. Hope it works for you!

Well I went back to the TM tonight. Haven't been on one since my last C25K workout. (March of last year) OMG it sucks! Listen ladies, trust me on this---as soon as you feel you are ready, take it outside. Outside is 10x easier than the TM. My shins even hurt, and they don't even hurt running 15 miles on pavement, and I only did 4 miles on the TM! The longest 4 miles of my life I might add. The only reason I did it inside is that I have lived at the hospital this weekend, getting called back for procedures every waking moment. I knew I only had a small window before the next possible call and I thought it would be quicker to just throw on some running clothes and run inside.

That is so great about all the kids getting signed up for the race. I agree with CB, I think all the kids could do the 5K without a problem. Kids are super tough and got way more energy than us old foggies. We got a super group of kids of all sizes and ages that run in all the local races--and let me tell you they kick major butt! I am putting my money on the little nonoette to make Boston before she is legal to drink.

I am so proud of all the new Peacocks! You are all doing great!!

OH - MY - Stimpy! Are we twins You simply could not be any more uncoordinated than I am!!!! My mom was always fond of saying that I could stand in the middle of the floor with nothing around me and trip over myself, LOL!

nono, tell more about the Brain Training book Also, whats this book about losing weight as an athlete? I still need to re-lose 12 pounds

I am thrilled that we even have Peacock kids-in-training!!!!!

Rozzie: I used to love my treadmill and now... It can never compare to running outside...

Crazy weekend, but I got the car squared away! I WAS able to get the 4.95% from Capital One approved w/ LTV and everything, but interestingly the dealer came up with manufacturer financing at 6.7% that had an extra $750 cash rebate with it! So, the payment ended up being the same and I took their deal to have a smaller principal amount on the loan! Also, I can pre-pay without a penalty so I think I'll try and put at least a little extra ($100 or maybe 2?) on it in May since the beginning is where it matters most.

Credit card statement cuts today so tomorrow [I pay it off each month so I try and pace myself...] I plan to order the Garmin and go to a "real" running store for shoes after work. Once I have both in hand (feet and arm?) I plan to venture- outside! That will probably be some time next week. I think I might stay on the elliptical until then...

I definately won't be in FL at the right time this year, but I think
    Expedition Everest™Challenge

sounds REALLY cool. Maybe I'll be able to try it someday. Uh-oh, phone call- gotta' get back to work...
