DG Since I'm on my phone I can't easily access your photos but it definitely sounds like you had a great first half experience which is the best part to me.
I am trying to motivate myself for a 10 mile run. I spent all day yesterday moving and unpacking (I'm out of my sister's) and didn't go to sleep until after 3 am. Needless to say I turned my alarm off when it rang at 4:20 to go running before church. I am so tired and it is so hot I just don't feel like it. But I only have 10 weeks left in training and no LR to
spare. I'm already skipping the afternoon Bible study since I didn't leave in time to beat Titan's traffic (my new place is right across the river from the stadium). I'll head out eventually.

Dan, thanks for your service to the country! And thanks for stopping by the thread too!!!
Lovetheboardwalk, yes, I did have it, and NO I did not get orthotics. Have you tried rolling a superball or similar under your foot? Took two weeks, but I finally got mine to release, and it hasn't been a problem since. Others swear by that Strassburg (?) sock. I didn't get that far, but it was next on my list to try. Those first steps in the morning! YEEEOOOCHHH!
I still remember the pain.

My mom just called and congratulated me.
It was 1996 that I my dad ran with Bill Rodgers in Houston; he looked it up after I talked to him Friday. He was off by a couple years when he mentioned it off the top of his head, and it was from 14 years ago. Guess he's just gettin' old...
I know I still need to write a full RR. Decided not to swim today; tired and stiff- both coming and going to varying degrees. Took 2 relatively short naps and am firing up the grill to cook some dinner now; E is prepping some squash.
Round trip to Dayton (including kennel & while in town) was 491.4 miles for us. I think that 4ish hours in the car starting only a couple hours after running may not have helped me today.
My mom agreed, and said something to the effect of it bothering dad sometimes but that was what we always did coming home from Dayton races (I grew up and they still live ~20 miles from our place now) due to schedules (school, work) and money. Since we always drove down & spent the night the day before anything more than an hour or so away then drove home the day of after races [unless they were far enough away that we flew], I never really thought about staying the night of the race being a good idea. Live and learn!

MM- Thanks and GL getting your run in! Hope you like the pics once you get a look. Hopefully your new place is cleaner than the last one
and you get handling the traffic under control.
We were lucky, back when Geagua Lake Amusement park was open I always lived on the "good" side (south) for traffic since I moved to Aurora- I would pass it going to work and many other places, BUT the majority of the traffic came from the north so I'd just look at the lines of cars and think "I'm glad I'm not in that..." Used to be fun passing listening to occasional screams from our front yard; maybe I should have had passes more than once, but I just preferred saving money for Disney 'cause the local stuff just didn't do it for me
. Too bad I couldn't afford one of those luxury Disney homes; be fun to do again!

Just occurred to me; maybe being able to see the top of the tallest park attractions from my front yard for several years (they had a space needle thing I could see plainly over my neighbors hours) influenced me to buy @ BLT & VGC, even if I can't live there full time...

okay, I've totally failed at my "stretch and strength" on the schedule for today. I'm going to blame it on the fact that maybe I had a bit too much fun at the Maryland Wine Festival yesterday
Maybe I'll do some move before you snooze now with some stretching.
PS-I'm so ready to give up football. It made everyone in my life waaay too angry today. And they all think my running is crazy
Beth--I love weather so much, they call me the cloudnut :-D

Dan, thank you for your service. Your town does a great job putting on a show.

If anyone has trouble sleeping tonight, this should put you past asleep. Pasted from runningahead. (yes I am cheating...)
Very happy to report official time of 3:57:14 @ USAF on Sat. PR of 17 min and change.
Mr Roz and I were both going for sub 4, and amazingly we finished within seconds of each other. We decided to start out behind 4:00 Pace group. The first few miles are a batch of hills that had us a little worried. We just wanted to keep group in our sights and take it easy. First miles were around 9:15 or so give or take. After mile 5 we clinched on to 4 hour pace group. Nice group of folks, a lot of first timers, others going for BQs.
Then until mile 13 we just stayed with the group. It felt very weird, like I was cheating almost. All I had to do was run. The pace felt easy, almost too easy. Several times Scott ran ahead, while I tried all I could to stay behind with group. My body was itching to go faster, but I knew I wanted to finish strong and I needed to hold back. Last few miles are a few hills which had this flatlander worried. Next few miles I ran right in front of group, slowly easing forward.
So at mile 16 I finally split off. Figured I felt too good to hold back anymore, and if I die, I will die trying in the last miles. I was amazed at mile 18 how fresh I felt. I had really tapered down my taper due to a hamstring issue, and it seems by body was really responding nicely to the extra rest.
Last miles were hard to navigate as the race merged the HM'ers who were walking and Full runners who were still trying to have a decent time. Mentally draining to dodge walkers left and right in narrow lanes. I kept yelling "passing, passing" just hoping to God no one would step out in front of me.
Still had legs left on last mile and managed my fastest mile @ 8:10. Dog tired at the end, but for the first time ever had enough energy to raise my arms up at the finish.
Overall I can't second guess how I ran the race. I really feel like holding back in the first half was a significant factor. Oh, and losing those 20 lbs this training cycle really made a big difference. Imagine that?
Oh, and I like male dominated marathons. Finished 18th place in my age group. In comparison, Mr Roz finished something like 84th with almost the same time.

CN- Just get back on the horse; you'll be fine!
And I hear ya' on sports being annoying when your family gets ticked about them; I SOOOO hated the rants from a number of my relatives when I was a kid...
Rozzie- You make it home without any more problems (I hope)? & any word on Gail & Joe?
Yikes- 10 PM and I haven't done any laundry yet; need to figure out if we have clothes to wear tomorrow!

Cloudnut we all play hooky some days. As long as you get in most of your days you should be fine. Instead of beating yourself up why not think of it as a day off your body needed. Rest days are every bit as important as active days.
I'm so proud Roz!!!
Ran my 10 miles and feel really good mentally. When I run I feel I can do almost anything including finishing 26.2 miles. My peroneus longus tendon does feel a bit puny where it crosses my lateral malleolus like I twisted my ankle. I didn't but it feels that way. I had a really bad sprain back in high school. When my Achilles started burning a month or two ago I noticed I could feel it in the PL too and could feel snap over the lateral malleolus with each step. Ice ice ice! I'm glad I was planning again to replace some of my short runs with cross training.
