You're only on Vol. 9? Impressive, I think I'm over Vol 15, easy! If it weren't for spell check in FireFox and me frequently rereading my posts at least once either before or right I after I click submit there would be a TON more. Anyway, I thought something looked a little funny, but assumed I was just spelling it wrong in my head! Perhaps we both have spelling related to Pooh's as defined in PP's sig.

Plan calls for 11 miles today, another venture into my 'longest EVER' realm. Went to bed early last night and woke early this morning (for a weekend!) to try and help with the weather. My body feels mostly OK, just a little sinus congestion. The mind games are in process; part of my things this chair or the love seat in A/C are quite nice; majority of me is actively psyching up for the run. I intend to start in around 45 minutes or so (about 1 hour after I had my yogurt & Fiber One bar; finishing my first of 2 glasses of iced green tea now; hope to have both down ~30 min. before tying one on [shoes, that is!]). Hopefully I'll be reporting success in a few hours; time will tell!

    Go get em' DG!

So Cloud, do you have a timegoal you are looking at for your race? No pressure, just curious. Even if it's a hour for the 5K, it helps to motivate me in training. I hope to meet up with you in Jan maybe.

Six miler done for the day! I got up and headed out before 6am so I could start with the sun. A bunch of other people had the same idea, but the weather cooperated with us. By the time I got back to the start (it was an out and back), it was starting to get hot! Heat index today is supposed to be above 105, maybe close to 110.
Sophia: “The race was underway. I start off slow. I’m cagey, like a panther, but when the time is right I pounce! The crowd is on its feet: ‘Sophia! Sophia!’ I could see the finish line; it was only 200-300 yds away. And then, it happened—what every runner dreads. I hit the wall.”

Dorothy: “Ah, ma, you ran out of steam?”

Sophia: “No, I actually hit a wall. They put up a new Wendy’s on Collins Ave.”

Good job MM! You might find yourself a sunrise runner. There is no way I can do quality after 8am. Which reminds me, I have to do my 22 miler after work at the end of August. Going to start at 6pm, finish hopefully by 9pm. () Only way for it to work that weekend without flipflopping weeks. (visiting Dad in Orlando that weekend-- father with cancer will take priority every time)

My 10K time trial in the morning is @ 6am sharp. Expecting Tropical Storm like conditions. Of course our route is on waterfront of Bay. No postponing, as there is a match race set up between Mr Roz and my cousin's boyfriend. If you remember, Mr Roz beat him by 4 seconds in the ATR 10K last spring. Cousin's boyfriend has taken that hard, and jumped at the chance at a rematch. You see, a 20 year old CC runner takes being beaten by old guy with gray beard pretty dern hard. Will post results tomorrow...stay tuned....

Nice job MM, GL Mr. Roz!

As for me: Got in 11.04 miles- sort of. I ended up doing a split workout. Started later than I originally planned (I know, I know- my bad) and began running low on Propel and probably overheating [it may have been my imagination, but I was feeling pretty hot and my hands seemed to start getting clamy and I might not have been sweating as much as a I thought I should {wasn't pouring off the prim of my hat for example}]. So, when I noticed that at about 6.8 miles or so in I switched from 3 min. run / 1 min walk to 3 min. run / 6 min. walk and took some BIG gulps of fluid! Ran out of Propel completely around 7.7 miles, but by then I was close enough to home that I could do a 'direct abort'; no longer on the out and back zone of my course. Made me quite glad I load up loops at the end that are near home as my safety net; also glad this was the first time I felt I really needed to use it! Got done with all that at 8.84 miles. Did a 3 minute or so cool down walk outside, then came in for WATER and air conditioning!!! Downloaded my Garmin to check distances, etc. and then cranked the AC upstairs down to 70 degrees, ceiling and little fans on hen hopped on the mill. I did a 0.1 mile warm up walk, and then 31 minutes after I stopped my outside run (so excluding it's cooldown walk & break) I did 2.2 miles, vast majority of it running. That gave me a grand total of 11.04 (and I did a 3 minute or so walk on the 'mill after hitting my distance marker). Grand total time (excluding the break) was 2:17:38.02, for ~12:28 pace, and around 1721 kcal burned with an AHR of 138. If I factor in that it was my longest distance EVER and it being the hottest day of the year (heat index was 93 when I get in from outside; might be typical for some of you but nearly DEADLY to me! ) I think I'm actually pretty happy with that. Glad I hopped on the mill to get the total distance; held me mentally and felt fine physically. Lesson learned: Sacrifice sleep next time to coordinate with weather, then take a nap after I run! Now, weather I will actually follow through on that or not is an ENTIRELY different question!

No worries DG, we have all been there. I think it took one time out like that for me that solidified that I needed to "beat the sun" in the summer. It was kinda even scary-I was alone and quit sweating, got chill bumps. No phone either. Sat down underneath a tree till I got my body temp down. Also something good to do is bring even more water and keep pouring it over your head. Nono uses ice cubes in her hat too. All kind of tricks to help us continue training.

Oh and 93 is HOT! Sure we get warmer sooner and stay warmer longer, but that is still hot to me. Which kinda makes it more dangerous for folks who don't live in tropical climates such as yourself. Your body is not as conditioned to it as someone who has already been running for a few months in it. That's why they closed the Chicago Marathon down a few years ago--people were not adjusting their pace and were just passing out left and right. Not realizing that it takes a looong time to run in conditions like that to have a good quality race.

I think you should pat yourself on back for a great effort. You finished your run at least, right?

    Oh Nono. Quack quack.

Can a body really get used to actual temperatures of 104 and humidity of around 80%?

Good luck tomorrow, Rozes. Hang on in the storm!

My sister has a tri tomorrow; I'm a little worried by the fact that it won't start until around 8am. By the time of the run it will be way too hot.

Thanks Roz- I did indeed finish. Conveniently I did also have my phone; I carry it and a little cash + my rescue inhaler & leatherman just in case... I think I'll probably appreciate the planned swim all the more after today's heat.

    GL to your sis MM!

    Quack on everyone.

Well MM, some people who train for BadWater (a great running documentary "Running on the Sun"-Check it out!) make it a point to try to get their bodies used to it. Even taking exercise bike into a sauna. Me personally, I will always suffer and be a slower pace when it's scorching. This will be my last early fall Marathon. Oh wait, crap, there's Chicago on the bucket list too.

The GOOD thing for all of us is that when fall comes, our pace and effort will drop. So keep the faith Peacocks, this suffering will benefit us in the end. Quack quack!

    Good luck MMs sis!
