Stimpy, invest in a good pair of shoes. You will be miserable if you don't. Shin splints are tough to get rid of once you get a bad case of them. It really is amazing the difference is running in the shoes right for your foot vs. the wrong one for your foot. I have a brand new pair of Mizuno's ($90) that have less than 50 miles on them. Horrible achillees problems right after I bought them, dumb me thought it was just "breaking them in" pain. Well as soon as I changed shoes the pain went away. BTW, I have fallen off many of TM. It's good to know that happens to other people too.

Well this week is super hard--I am having to do a 9 day stretch with no days off at work. I can totally feel my body bucking. Luckily starting today I am in a mini taper for the big 10K this weekend, did 6 yesterday, 4 today, off tomorrow, and only 2 Friday. I don't think I recovered from my 10 on Sat, legs just feel dead. I know it's from all the physcial labor at work plus coming home and doing the mileage. Anyhoo the race is a super big deal down here, even the Kenyan's come to try to beat WR's. (it's a traditional fast course) Supposed to have close to 6,000 runners, which is a lot without corrals IMHO. We plan to arrive super early, line up super early. Not in front with the Kenyan's though.

Oh, there's so much wrong with this statement. Esp. the part that suggests only 1 pair.

The variety of races offered out there is simply amazing

Guys - see if you can find info on the 5K course from this year. Disney doesn't make too many changes (which is good and bad depending on how you liked it to begin with).

The 5K for this year went through Animal Kingdom. I wonder if they will rotate the parks each year? That would be cool!

I'll have to go barefoot a while longer....DD's b-day party is coming up and have to pay for all that crap first

Gear is in the works! Ordered the Garmin yesterday from Amazon, free Super Saver shipping so we'll see when it arrives. They say April 6th - 11th, but I don't think I've EVER has an in-stock items take nearly as long as SS estimates.

Went to a running store yesterday after work as well. Got a $100 pair (+ tax of course) of Asics GT-2140s. Salesman did a gait analysis, I tried 4 different pairs (2 Asics, 1 Mizuno, 1 Adidas) on with him watching a quick jog in each. Said I have "Morton's Toe" and that I mildly overpronate; when walking in socks looked like I didn't overpronate at all, only when speeding up was it noticeable.

I'm physicking myself up to try them out - outside even - the morning after the Garmin comes in (providing it isn't raining)!

What temperature do some of you like to out in just shorts and a T-shirt vs. sweats and maybe long sleeves and/or jacket / sweatshirt? I'm sure there are lots of opinions on this but I'd love to hear a few while I'm awaiting the new electronics! TIA

Rozzie.....5:50 AM?!?! Holy crap! 7:00am will be like sleeping in!

Question for those of you that have the ipod touch (2nd generation)....I'm looking for an arm band or clip to hold the itouch while running...any suggestions? I currently either take my ipod shuffle (that just clips onto whatever) or set my itouch on the treadmill while at the gym, but when I take my show on the road, I'd like to use my itouch because it has the couch 2 5K app in it and I can track my progress. Any suggestions?

susie - i bought an armband at walmart that was $15 its of a spandex material and it is really good. i dont remember right now what the brand is but i will let you know what it is.

can anyone tell me how to determine if a shoe is right for me? i have 2 pairs of shoes asics gt2130 and my commando new balances. the asics are nice but not that comfortable anymore, and the new balances are mostly for disney since they are rugged and heavy but i used them to run since they are pretty comfortable. i went to a running store and the shoes were 20 dollars more but they would fit me into the shoe.
