Interesting, there weren't that many posts that I had to catch up on for a change!

Nancy- Welcome back! Sorry you were having problems. As for the Marathon, it might take a lot of work and dedication to train for, but I managed to drag myself across the finish line (more walking than running by far, but I was under the sweep pace and that's all I cared about) & get my Mickey- chances are you could do it too if you decide to go for broke one of these years. Disney parks & races in them are definitely great for scenery, that's for sure. And as an added bonus, going past the sewage treatment plant outside MK keeps you motivated not to stop!

Diz- FWIW I recommend focusing on getting healthy now and keep being easy on training until then. I've read some things on Active.com that hard exercise if you have anything more than a minor cold can be counter productive. That may or may not be true, but just remember: All you have to do is finish your first half ahead of the sweep and you've set a PR!!! Whatever you decide to try I hope you feel better soon.

Sorry if I missed anyone or anything; I hope you all had a good weekend and that EVERYONE has a good start to the week Monday morning.

Thank you nkw... I also do hope that I get to that point once again.

My plan was to do my last long run before my taper yesterday; a 14 miler (my only one of the training cycle as reality has spun it). Unfortunately a bunch of craziness happened throughout the day [not really bad exactly at least!] and I ended up doing a roughly 20 min. powerwalk just before midnight instead. Hey, I illegitimately didn't break my streak by at least doing that. However, to make up for it I bailed on swimming today and knocked out 14.21 miles w/wu&cd outside in just under 2:57. No, it isn't exceptionally fast, but with a sub 12:30 AP it lines me up WAYYYY ahead of the sweep in 2 weeks. This was my pre-race gear check: Same shoes (I decided on my Brooks Adrenaline 11 pair), shorts, waist pack, water bottle, shirt, hat, & Garmin as I plan to wear on race day. Everything checked out and only some minor tinges of soreness here and there so I'm a happy Geek with the trial run. I've been pondering goals for the DL half, and right now my gold is break the average of my McMillan predicted half times based on my best race ever (10 miler in April 2011) and my toughest, the Mickey from this January. That lines me up to shoot for 2:37:57, or about 12:03 pace as a goal. Slightly aggressive based on what I've been doing in training lately, but not unobtainable if I'm having a good morning and we get good weather. We'll see what happens. As long as I finish and complete my Coast to Coast Challenge I'll be a happy camper though.
WoW DG! Congrats on the streak and the better swimming time.

Diz- I'm not saying do nothing if you are too stir crazy, just take it easy. More walking than running perhaps until your breathing gets better. Oxygen = Good.

Now if only I could fall asleep...

Well, I'm sad I haven't been around more, but life has been ridiculously crazy. I'm about as trained up as I'm going to be for Wildwood this weekend and DL next, and I'm happy to report that my legs are actually feeling better than they have in weeks! (I'm knocking on something now). Looking forward to seeing some folks in Wildwood, some in DL!

    Good luck Diz!

Can't wait to see you CN!

My Brooks Glycerin 10 shoes came in yesterday and I took them for a walk on the 'mill. Seemed to work. My shins are still mad at me from my 14 miler, but nothing terrible. Stretching and massaging to work them out, and not pushing any more hard workouts...

I hope everybody is doing well around here.

DG - awesome on the streak

CN, nono, mickeyndvcfan - can't wait to see you this weekend!

Haven't posted much - although there has been lots going on in last week. Started seeing an ART guy as suggested by Roz and CN - and so far, I think it's really helpful. The big news for me has been non-running - I've gotten the opportunity to join a competitive women's curling team that seems relatively strong. The opportunity just kind of fell in my lap last week and I'm really excited about it. It definitely makes fall busy and expensive - as there are lots of bonspiels (curling tournaments) and practices to do. But it's the best opportunity I've had in several years. I had kind of given up on competitive women's curling and was almost ready to hang up my shoes. So fall will be a test of my endurance - training for the marathon, practicing with this team, and working. I'm a little daunted - but I really want to do all of it (except perhaps the work...). So somehow I'll find a way to make it happen.

And I'm still really focused on trying to BQ (qualify for the Boston marathon). I would love to do it at WDW in January and that's the goal - but if I don't make it then, then I'll just try again next year sometime. I doubt myself a lot b/c my training times and recent race times confuse me. But I just have to have faith and keep putting the miles and hard work in. I know I'm faster at this point this year than I was at this point last year - so I just have to go with that. I'm still not sure where I pulled the 1:44 and 1:46 half marathons from last January, b/c it doesn't seem to match with my recent race times and training. But then again - my training leading into that wouldn't have predicted those times either. Disney magic I guess.
