DW and I just returned from a quick getaway to my hometown of San Francisco for 3 nights.
While officially we went to visit my sister, the recent opening of the Walt Disney Family Museum played a big part in our decision to go.

I won't give a full review(there's plenty online), but I will say that hard core Disney fans certainly won't be disapointed if you make the trek to see it.

It's amazing, interactive and fun. As you move from display to display, you actually hear Walt's voice telling you his story.
    What a joy that was!

The final portion of the museum is the part that really blew me away. It focused on Disneyland and his plans for Disney World.
Heaven for Disney Park freaks like me!!!

We spent about 3 hours in the museum, but I could have been there all day.
(Mrs. Fanatic isn't quite, well, as Fanatical as me........ but she loved it too!)

A major bonus is the location of the museum in the Presidio section of San Francisco. Just behind the museum are some of the best views of the Golden Gate bridge you'll find.(With several benches available to sit and soak up the scene)

Our hotel (Buena Vista Motor inn) on Lombard street was about a 40 minute walk to the museum, and a 25 minute walk to Fisherman's wharf. Great location! And a $65 internet rate to boot. (There's actually a ton of inexpensive hotels on Lombard street that would work well)

    That's it.
Just wanted to let anybody that's thinking about heading to SF know that the museum is worth it for sure!!

I am SO JEALOUS! I hope to get there someday, but it doesn't look like anytime too soon. I thought it looked super based on all I have read, but your post makes me want to go even more. Thanks for the report.

One whine--I wish the location was nearer to Disneyland.

    Cmon Mar!
    It's only a 7-8 hour drive.

Leave the Grand Californian by 6am, you can spend 2-3 hours in the museum, and you'll be back by midnight!

    Don't be soft!
For God's sake, it's for Walt!!!

Dan, I don't doubt it's worth the ride, and if I was planning a longer trip I would visit for sure. But since I will only be there for a short 4 days I think I'll save this for my next, and longer visit. Something Disney I have never done to look forward to in the future!

I second the jealousy! I won't be getting to SF anytime soon. I spent a month out there in the 80s, and loved it. Haven't made it back since, sadly.

Obviously I was kidding. Nobody wants to waste valuble DL time on California freeways.

    You'll get there someday.
