You won't have to check-out and check-in if you book the cash portion of your reservation through MS; have them link the reservations together and you will not have to move.
If you book the cash portion of your reservation through CRO, then you would have to check-out and check-in again. In this case, you may have to move. Then again, if you explain your situation when you check-in for your points reservation, the CM's may be able to sprinkle some pixie dust so that you don't have to move when you transition to your cash reservation, but there's no guarantee. That said, I've done this a couple of times and not had to move. I just had to go to the front desk to get new keys.

Mix of Pts and cash vacation –
04-23-2009,08:42 AM
Im new to DVC but have been looking at it since 2004 and finally made the purchase 3 weeks ago at a great price with a referral. I felt like I was in training for 4 years...anyway.
My question is if my stay is 2 weeks at the same resort, can I do week 1 on pts and week 2 on cash without having to check-out and check-in.
Also where can I find info on renting?
Thanks

We've lengthened our last two stays by adding cash days to our points reservations -- like the previous poster stated - as long as you book through MS, they will link the ressies and you will have no problem. You will get two confirmation #s. Depending on availability, you will get the DVC Member discount of 25% off the rack rate.

You might be able to maximize your points better and pay less out of pocket if you use your points for the Sun-Fri stay and pay cash for the two nights - Friday and Saturday. When you make both cash and point reservations you'll be able to link them and not have to check in and out each of those reservations.

I would agree with the first 2 posters and also with cruisin! the only thing is that the sun-fri point cost will go up next year so it wont really matter anymore! but you also wanted to find out about renting points so I wanted to respond to that! what you can do is just look on forums for people renting points, mostly on the disboards. and if anything you can go to http://www.dvcrequest.com/

I'm trying to figure out how my husband and I can swing going to the D23 Expo 8/19/11 instead of our planned DLR vacation in 9/11. The way I think I can do that is by paying cash for what my points won't cover. I've got a bunch of questions.
1) When you make a cash reservation through member services, do they use up all of your points and then take cash from there, or might you end up with points left over?
2) Do you have to make some form of payment when you make that reservation?
3) Can you make a cash reservation at 11 months out with your home resort, or do you have to wait until 7 months? Waiting to 7 months to "rent points" from DVC irks me.
I think that's everything for now at least. All help appreciated!!

Wow, I didn't know about the cash ressie 11 months out at a home resort. That is really cool to hear!!! I might have to consider doing a cash night sometime, and then try to switch to points @ 7 months from another contract...
Could be handy and prevent borrowing when using one of my small contracts.
