The Disney Vacation Club resorts aren't the only timeshares within a stone's throw of the Magic Kingdom. Look closely on your next trip up Buena Vista Drive and you'll spot a nondescript sign pointing toward the Bonnet Creek Resort.
Bonnet Creek sits on a plot of land which Walt Disney was unable to acquire during his spending spree in the 1960s. It has since become home to a Wyndham timeshare resort, among other things.
But that is only a small part of the story. Join Yesterland.com's Werner Weiss for a look at The Mysteries of the Bonnet Creek Resort.

Hasn't CB stayed at Bonnett Creek? Sounds nice. I agree that WDW should do a nature park like they used to have Discovery Island.

I stayed at the lake buena vista best western on the same street as DTD about 1 yr ago. they offered us $50 each, free ride to any park, and free continental bf for going to see a 1 1/2hr presentation we got to see the sample rooms, but while waiting to be called were told that since neither of us were 21 that we didnt qualify for anything. no 50ea, no free ride to a park, and no free continental bf, i was IRRITATED, AND VERY UPSET. i spoke to the manager on how we were not informed on the 21age limit and that it was already 10 o'clock and we wasted A LOT of our day so i was like the least you can do is let us eat bf for the trouble so he let us which was the only good thing that came out of it. lol

This was fascinating. Thank you for posting!

And I agree with the article that it would be nice to have Disney develop a nature reserve similar to the one being proposed at Bonnet Creek Resort.

Diz NeE, that was ridiculous for them to do what they did. Obviously your age didn't prevent you from becoming a DVC member! Their loss is our gain.

it was funny because we werent 21 either when we bought into DVC and we actually remembered when we went and we thought about it and we werent going to do it anyways, but we thought about it because of the fact that disney is getting our business.

The last statement in the article is one that I am surprised more discussions dont revolve around, that is way too many hotel/resort rooms with no new attractions on WDW property to absorb it.

Disney has a 10,000 acre nature preserve about 20 minutes south of WDW. Great place to spend half a day exploring.

Land developers are required to match developement acreage with nature preserve acreage. Don't mistake the BCR reserve for anything more than it is; A requirement.

I'm not sure that hotels really have an impact on park crowds.

Look at it this way--if you were/are an occasional guest to WDW, do you read about a new hotel opening and say "hey, we need to go to Disney World so we can check out this hotel!" Or to you first decide to go to WDW and then decide where to stay?

I assume, for the vast majority of people, that the latter is true. More hotels don't necessarily draw more people. All of those guests first have to make the decision to go...and only then does it become a question of where to stay.

Disney's last new resort was Pop Century. I can't see people making the decision to visit WDW simply because they want to stay at POP. POP didn't bring more guests into the theme parks. Instead the progression was that people first decided to go and THEN decided POP was their resort of choice.

Some of Bonnet Creek may be a bit different since it's a timeshare. It could open up more Wyndham owners to the benefits of visiting WDW. But those guests aren't much more than a drop in the bucket.

You and I may remember a time when the parks weren't nearly as busy as they seem these days, but Disney isn't particularly anxious to return to those times. I do wish Disney would get off the stick and start announcing some new attractions for WDW, but I don't think we should be holding our breath for any new parks or major expansions of the current ones.
