so does that mean that it's better to get have contracts with the same use years?

It sounds so complicated to me--I think I'm going to have to make sure to either keep buying from the DVC directly (which I'm sure they will love
), or really be careful about my use year so I can do the "link"ing thing Time mentioned. That limit on transfers is a bit harsh.
Sophia: “The race was underway. I start off slow. I’m cagey, like a panther, but when the time is right I pounce! The crowd is on its feet: ‘Sophia! Sophia!’ I could see the finish line; it was only 200-300 yds away. And then, it happened—what every runner dreads. I hit the wall.”
Dorothy: “Ah, ma, you ran out of steam?”
Sophia: “No, I actually hit a wall. They put up a new Wendy’s on Collins Ave.”

Wow - thanks for all this good info. i haven't made my call to MS yet - it was a crazy day at work - imagine letting work interfere with DVC?

i shouldn't laff too hard, as a business owner work is good!
My resale agent did tell me to make sure the use years of the two contracts were the same, which we did. I think the second contract must be considered a sub of the master even though they are different resorts, so that linking of points without a transfer is an option and that being said i am assuming that they aren't considered separate contracts and won't both qualify for a transfer.
A point that i will check during my call to MS.
I am also interested in the one transfer per calendar year versus one transfer per use year. When i did my transfer, the points were from the other member's 2010 allotment and i worried that these points would have to be 'borrowed' and would so be ineligible for a transfer. What i learned was that they could be transferred directly into my 2010 use year and will be available for my 2010 reservation. Which is what started me thinking about whether i could possibly transfer a second allotment of points for 2009. I am going to check that out and will let you know.
I would like to add on, but since I can't purchase direct from DVC, living in the province of Manitoba, Canada, i am forced to do resale or make a purchase when we are actually in WDW, which is not the most convenient. So, in the short term it seems like some small transfers of points from other members will help secure the reservations i am after until i can add to my BCV and BWV contracts.
blah blah blah, hey?
Thanks DiZ NeE 08 for the welcome! I really like this site.

I finally found some time to talk to member services and here is what i found out.
Only one transfer is allowed per membership, per use year.
Although the points i recently received as a transfer are for next use year, this transfer is considered my transfer for the current use year.
Since my two contracts under one membership number, i am only eligible for the one transfer. By the way i purchased my contracts through resale for two different resorts.
At the seven month window i can combine points from the two contracts to make a reservation. This wouldn't be considered a transfer.
so far now at least my questions are answered!

I thought so too, but DVC is only licensed to sell in one Canadian province - that being Ontario.
They had originally assigned me a guide, but when i called to make a purchase she said she couldn't help me and couldn't put me on a waitlist for a BCV add on. I asked if we could stay in touch and i would complete the purchase when i got to Florida in march but she said she couldn't even stay in touch with me at risk of losing her license. I guess it would be considered soliciting business in a territory they aren't licensed to operate in.
so i guess my options are to go to the sales centre when i'm there, or keeping looking on the resale market.
