DVCNews Debates: Discounted Cash Trip –
11-23-2008,10:02 PM
Due to declining reservation numbers projected for calendar year 2009, Disney recently announced a slew of promtional offers including a "Buy 4 (nights), get 3 free" package. Of course, this is not the first time that discounts have been offered. Room discounts for Annual Passholders are commonplace, as are things like the "free dining" promotions in the fall.

Topic: Since becoming a DVC member, have you ever booked a trip that did not use any points because of the discount package offered? If so, explain.

I am not sure if this "counts" as it's not really a whole trip, but here goes anyway.
I frequently use the AP discount and stay at a value or a mod on Saturday night to save the weekend points. I've stayed at Pop for as little as $49/night. I "splurged" for a moderate (POR) for January at $89/night.
But I am way too addicted to BWV (as many of my DVC pals know). For me it's just not a WDW trip if I am not staying at there for the majority of the trip. So no matter how good the deal may be elsewhere I still prefer staying at my DVC "home". (the one Saturday night elsewhere i can deal with

Yes! Definetely taking advantage of the offers out there. My trip coming up in a few days consists of us stay at the Sports.....including dining.....we are on a Friends/Family rate......We are paying approx $400 for 5 nights/2ad/1ch. Pretty good right? We'd rather save our points for when we want to do something bigger like a cruise/or perhaps Hawaii?

Our last trip was just DH and I and although we wanted to be at The Boardwalk for the Food & Wine Festival, I wanted maid service and we didn't need the extra room since the kiddies were not coming. I was able to get a king size bed with a boardwalk view at a decent AP rate at the Boardwalk Inn and we really enjoyed it!
Starting to think of using DVC points when we are traveling with kids / family, but when it is just DH & I; I enjoy a little pampering from the mousekeepers as well as the other perks of staying a the hotel.

I hope to be able to in August, if they have an AP rate. I'd like to go to WDW for my B-day, and really don't have enough points to stay during that time on points. I was looking at staying at a Value, and looking at this year's discounted rates, could possibly stay at a Value for 4 nights for $250 or less!
The 7 nights for the price of 4 is a great deal--unless you have an AP. I know not all DVC members do (I don't currently), but given the number of times I will be going next year, I will be getting one.Sophia: “The race was underway. I start off slow. I’m cagey, like a panther, but when the time is right I pounce! The crowd is on its feet: ‘Sophia! Sophia!’ I could see the finish line; it was only 200-300 yds away. And then, it happened—what every runner dreads. I hit the wall.”
Dorothy: “Ah, ma, you ran out of steam?”
Sophia: “No, I actually hit a wall. They put up a new Wendy’s on Collins Ave.”

If this is like past offers, you can still make-out when booking the package. As I understand it, you are only required to buy a 1-day, 1-park ticket with the 7-for-4 offer. You could then hang onto the single day ticket and redeem it toward your next AP purchase.

I priced a package out using that formula.
We have APs, and we are staying at Port Orleans French Quarter in May, as of now, getting a AAA discount. We are still $48 dollars under, doing it as originally planned. We'll save even more if a good AP rate comes out.
Of course, if you can go within the period that they are offering the $200 gift card, it may be worth it. But check out the AP discounts 1st.

When staying on cash, we either stay AP discount or DVC Villa discounted cash rate. We do this quite often, actually. We should just buy more points!!!
