    Default DVCNews Debates: Exclusive Merchandise

Disney has created a number of exclusive retail items for Disney Vacation Club Members over the years. Included are unique shirt designs, including some from the likes of Tommy Bahama and Nike, jewelry from Alex & Ani and Pandora, Dooney & Bourke handbags, coffee cups, trading pins, board games and much more. But is there some opportunity Disney is missing?

Topic: What retail merchandise would you like to see Disney produce exclusively for DVC members (or produce more often)?

I would love it if they offered more DVC resort-specific merchandise, e.g., kitchen magnets, t-shirts, etc. When I stay at BLT I would like to be able to pick up a magnet, t--shirt or mug that says "Bay Lake Tower" on it, not Contemporary Resort.

Same with the Grand Floridian Villas, Boulder Ridge Villas, Kidani Village, etc.

I agree completely. I haven't seen anything Kidani since it was brand new, and even then all they had was one t-shirt w/a giraffe on it, and it said Kidani on the sleeve.

My comment here also applies to Disney Parks in general. I'd like to see more merchandise that is specific to a resort or park, not the generic "Disney Parks" or "DVC" logos. Some sense of exclusivity would make items more appealing. If I can get something at any of the Disney Parks, it doesn't seem all that special. If I can get a DVC item at any of the DVC resorts, I probably won't get it. Most of my purchases are items that I could only get at Epcot or Kidani or...you know what I mean. On my last trip, my suitcase wasn't even that full going home because I didn't find much I wanted to buy that I couldn't find elsewhere.

I'm trying to think what I would buy myself. The first few years of our membership (nearly 15 years ago), I bought a couple shirts and a hat. But since then I haven't had much interest. The Tommy Bahama shirts are really nice but quite expensive. If I were spending that sort of money, not sure that a shirt with DVC on it would be my first choice.

I wish they sold the DVC board games in stores. In recent years they've made custom versions of Monopoly, Scrabble, Life and others. They are mostly used as gifts on the member cruises. I bought one of the 'Life' games from eBay and it's (mostly) well done. I'll have to post a review of it one of these days on DVCNews.

We have so many board games I am not sure we really need new ones although playing a DVC version of a game would be fun. And although we say we don't need any more tee shirts appropriately designed tees with the name of the DVC resort with a logo of something related to the resort versus DVC, like for BLT the monorail. At PVB add a Polynesian design with the DVC resort name. We still cherish our Kidani Village one.

Personally, I'd like to see decent knit polo shirts with resort-specific logos and maybe even a regular DVC logo. None of this distressed or other frayed look stuff. I want things that would not look out of place in an office environment. They used to make them, but they've since shifted to fairly expensive ones if they still make them at all (like the Nike golf shirts at high prices or Tommy Bahama at stratospheric prices). Get them in around $35-40 and I'll buy them.

Most of the shirts and things they have now are really only suitable for vacation only use... that's a little much like wearing the T-shirt of the band you've gone to see. Just feels like a faux pas.
