Default Walt Disney World gondola system confirmed

New documents obtained via the Reedy Creek Improvement District--the municipality which encompasses Walt Disney World--seemingly confirm intentions to build an airborne gondola system linking at least three resorts and two theme parks.

I wonder how long it takes to construct a gondola system? It looks like Paris, France is planning on a suburban gondola system that will connect into Paris. They say the drive to Paris is 44 minutes from these suburbs and it will be a 17 minute gondola ride. I also saw that Austin, Texas is considering a gondola system. They really need it as their highways are mess in rush hour.

To me this will almost be like an attraction in itself.

This does seem to be a cool idea. I'm a little hesitant on two fronts with this. One, each car would seat 10 people and transport 3000 people an hour. That's 300 cars flying around. Also, one of the the landing places or stations being at Epcot of course. If it is at the Epcot entrance next to BCV's, I'm just wondering what that will do to the noise factor in the rooms and the running of those cars into each evening, say, 1 hour after the closing and during Extra Magic Hours, etc. I can see it really congesting that whole area. I'm hoping they make another entrance, but I don't see how that's likely. Does anyone know where it is proposed to land in Epcot? I didn't find it in this article but I did see someone else's rendering and it was at that entrance...

    Just some things I'm thinking...

This is the map I was referring to with the Epcot station on it.

    These
Systems can be prefabricated and there is likely more work in building the stations I think they could have them done in 12 months. Some of the ground work was already ready to go so for a change I think this project wont linger like most.

    Based
on the map it looks t almost fly down the road the Boardwalk is on and the station being just outside the Int Gateway. That would have little noise impact for sure. Besides the Boardwalk makes its own noise that would negate the gondolas which should make little noise.

I am really looking forward to this. I agree, Denise. This will be like an attraction in itself. I would be happy to go from gondola to gondola seeing the sights.

I highly doubt it would require 300 cars to transport 3,000 people an hour. Each car could probably travel the entire route in about 15 or 20 minutes. If so, that means each car would be transporting 30 or 40 people an hour, which would reduce the number of cars to 75 to 100 cars.

When we were at WDW a few weeks ago, we looked at the International Gateway to see if there were any signs of construction. There were none at that time. But I looked at the Gateway, I thought its quite possible that Disney could build the gondola station right on top of the current turnstiles. The station will be elevated, so Disney could design it like the monorail platforms at Epcot or TTC, leaving plenty of room for the turnstiles underneath.

We ski in Telluride, CO, where they have a gondola used mainly as a people mover between mountain towns. It works VERY well. Even at 10,000 feet and in snowy weather, it was built quickly. I think in less than one year. It is very quiet and travels above numerous hotels and private homes. The only real noise is at the station. We enjoy flying to town and not even renting a car beacause we can travel on a gondola. Plus it is fun talking to other guests as we travel along. I just hope Disney installs air conditioning. Disneyland doesn't have it in the monorail and they shut it down when it is too hot!
