These photos are going to make the next 55 days unbearable... Planning on spending my first entire day just touring the resort.

The Art of Animation Resort is very similar to Pop Century in size. They each have 10 buildings, one main feature pool, and two secondary pools. Remember, Disney's original plans called for it to build a resort where AofA now stands that would have the early decades of the 20th century: '00s, '10s, '20s, '30s, and '40s.
As I've said before, the AofA is worth a visit. Lots of photo opportunities, the food court is good, and it brings back fond memories of some favorite Disney/Pixar films.
If I were to fault Disney about anything to do with AofA, it would be that it has underestimated how kids (and their parents) will react to the many statues and icons all around the resort. The natural reaction of kids will be to climb on Mater, or Rafikki, or Simba. Can't you see some kids (and their parents) trying to climb up and pose with Simba, Timon, and Pumbaa on this log? Unfortunately, these things aren't playthings, but people will treat them as such. In the extreme lower left of this photo is a sign that says "Paws on the Ground. Don't climb." But there are some really stupid people out there that won't be deterred by a simple warning sign.

When we were there a tour group caught up with us in the Lion King Section, many of the women had high heels on and every one was dressed in business clothes. Except one woman also brought her two children. She had them step off of the sidewalk to pose with Rafikki. And the boy tried to put his head under Rafikki's arm and ended up hitting his head on the pointed elbow of the statue.

We often see parents telling the kids to climb into a flower bed to stand next to a statue. You just don't think about it. Or sometimes the parents are amazed and proud of the child's ability to climb so well etc. etc. There's always excuses. But I still think Disney didn't think it out well enough as it looks too much like a play area. Especially since the area under the elephant bones is an area kids are permitted to go into.--Denise
