My dentist seems to think he does! I was talking to him and his wife yesterday (they work together), and I remember they've been DVC members for 5 years, owners at SSR, but they didn't remember I was a member too. I told them I was going to Animal Kingdom Villas in a few weeks, and last spring I was at Old Key West. "Have you ever stayed there?" I asked. "Oh, no, we're Disney Vacation Club members so we stay at-what's that place called? Saratoga Springs?" That's when I reminded them that I was a member also. You could tell from the look on their faces that they doubted a DVC member could stay at anyplace besides SSR. Then the wife proceded to tell me how she just loves the 1 BR at SSR with "that cute little kitchenette."Um, is that the studio maybe? I thought of mentioning 11 month versus 7 month booking rules, but then for sure they'd think I was drunk from the anesthetic and order an ambulance. Hey, they've been members for 5 years and they're happy. Why spoil it with facts?

Life is always easier when you are unencumbered with facts. In March 2010, on our first trip as DVC members we stayed at BLT. We met a couple who had been DVC members since 1992. However, the wife had no clue of BLT's existence and was surprised there was a DVC resort at the Contemporary.

Much of what I have learned about DVC has been via forums. While I found our guide (who retired ) very informative, she was always on vacation when I called for help or with a question. Calling member services is not a good way to learn about your DVC because I tried that and got operators who told me to read the site. Our DVC member site is ok but sometimes just loads a pdf which is like trying to read a 'how to' manual. Without the forums I would probably be totally lost, which is how I felt before discovering DVC. From DVC, I discovered Disboards and so many other sites. People who don't like computers and just want to vacation probably haven't bothered to search for forums or information. They just call MS and reserve.

I agree. Since I purchased my DVC points by resale, I do not have a guide. Anything that I have learned about DVC has been via the forums. I am so grateful to the members and Moderators who answer all my questions. Thank you. It continues to be a learning experience.

I was pondering something along those lines. But if they are happy then I can also see other's points in the ignorance is bliss train of thought. Just HOPEFULLY the couple isn't ignorant about dental practices, only vacationing!

I am surprised at how many people who own DVS think they can only stay at their home resort. Guess pay attention is not a requirement in sales presentations

Nor do many DVC members think it is necessary to read the documents you are given before signing and paying out the bucks. All that information it right there in the documents. And the information is also sent out in the Travel Planners each year. Some people live their lives in a fog. Maybe the old adage is right, Ignorance is Bliss.

I think this is because people think of their DVC like a timeshare. Everyone who owns a regular timeshare thinks I am wrong when I tell them I have a choice of 10 venues on any given available week for no extra cost. They think I've paid the cost in my MF and don't know it.
