I too have been told by CMs that if you change a waitlist you "lose your place in line" and end up at the bottom of the new list. I don't know for sure if this applies only to a complete change, and maybe you doing what you did, drop just one day, is a different situation.
What I would in your position would be to call MS tomorrow and speak to a supervisor. Tell him or her what happened and ask if it was handled correctly. No doubt they can move you back up on the list if the CM did something improper.

Is this a waitlist rule? –

I called yesterday to change a waitlist I had for 4 days down to only wailisting for 3 days. The CM told me that waitlists couldn't be modified, that the only way to do that was to create a new waitlist. And the new waitlist would be in a new position "in line" starting yesterday. It sounded vaguely familiar, so I told her to reduce it anyways, even if I'd be further down the list. But then I mentioned it on another board and no one had heard of it. They told me that the CM must have been ontrained and gave me incorrect information. So what do you think happened? I'd hate to think that a new waitlist was created if dropping one day doesn't have to create a new waitlist. I'm just so discouraged now. I was waitlisted for a 1 BR at BCV as this big surprise for Guy (we have a studio booked) and now I'm just sure we're not going to get it. Well, there goes the surprise!

My suggestion would be to check the 4 days of availability online. If the 4th day that you want to drop is actually available to book, then I would call back and see if you could get back in for your 4 day waitlist. That way you know that it is actually one or more of the 3 days you actually want that you are waiting for. If your waitlist comes through then, just call back and drop that day of your ressie. Just a suggestion.

I had the same situation a few days ago when I called MS to tell them that when I was put on the waitlist for the nights of the W&D half marathon the CM only put myself in the room when it was supposed to be me and my girlfriend. That cast member told me the same thing about the list and me being put at the bottom so I decided that I would wait until I got it or not and then change the details or just show up at the resort and talk to them about the mix up. Hopefully one of those would fix it.
