    Princess Figure.jpg

Before our 2011 trip to Disney World. I received an email requesting my daughter's participation in a new product survey. The product used 3D photography to create a Disney Princess figure using the face and hair color of the child. The production was set up in The World of Disney store and cast members took several pictures of my daughter. She was able to choose from three princess. I think they were Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Belle. They did not promise that we would receive a figure at all. It was only in the testing stage and they were not sure if the technology would work. Approximately 4 months later her princess figure arrived in the mail requesting that we access an online survey. The survey asked the general questions like what we thought of the figure and if we would purchase one in the future, the survey also asked what we thought was a reasonable price, etc. I thought the figure was a great idea and it looked just like the photo they took of my daughter.

We recently returned from our 2012 trip and I saw no sign of this product anywhere. I was wondering if anyone else has participated in this test and if they know what has happened to this product. It is a great souvenir and is behind glass doors never to be touched!

I have not participated in this sort of survey but it would be a cool gift for girls. It might become a marketing item later through the Disney Store but I would doubt it would be available at the parks because it would take time to manufacture.

I haven't seen this either, sounds very cool, lucky you and DD to be chosen! The description sounds very much like something they offered guests attending the most recent Star Wars Weekend. Lou Mongello (from wdwradio.com) had a figure made of himself with his face on the body of Han Solo posed frozen in carbonite. It was $100. The face looked JUST like him, it was awesome. Seems to me that it is similar technology, so hopefully they'll offer the princess one and possibly other figures as well eventually.

One of the survey questions asked if we would be interested in other characters like pirates for the boys. I will have to tell my brother about the star wars figure, he loves going during that weekend and has three boys. I don't think he knows about this or he would have had them made. The price is a little steep but considering how much you spend on useless souvenirs this is at least a one of a kind keepsake.

One of a kind indeed. I couldn't get over how perfect the face was, it truly looked exactly like Lou. Same as your daughter, they took many pictures and the image of the final product was 3D.

I just ran across a link to an article that talks about the "I Am A Princess".

(7/26/12) Disney has filed an interesting new patent for a little something they call “Physical Face Cloning” in which they will use new facial scanning techniques to make far more realistic looking animatronic figures. Read all about it over at Stitch Kingdom.

Related to this from the park blog.

We did the test with our daughter last August and it was a great experience. The product once we got it was not so great, to us anyway. I could even tell you where it is right now.

I dunno, with 3D printing it might not take too terribly long to make. My daughter would probably love it - she's almost 3 and loves things that look like her (and she loves the princesses too). I know the nieces would probably find it cool too. And my kid would not be too picky about it looking exactly like her. I'd be more picky. (probably because it would be mine until she is old enough to appreciate it, blahblahblah, insert parental language here)

I can't find a shot of the finished product but if you look here at about the 2:15 mark you can see Lou being "frozen".

He held his carbonite up to the camera during a live show a few weeks ago, but he only records the first half hour of the Wednesday night show he does. Unfortunately the portion where he showed his carbonite likeness was later in the show.

Here's a shot I found on Google of a kid who had it done (Original shot was posted on Insidethemagic.com):
