Wow! I didn't know that about DVC... Dang - I hope there is a lot of august contracts as I bought my resale contract with an aug UY this would suck as I noticed when searching for contracts it was really rare to see an aug contract but really common for a december, september and october UY.

Bay Lake Use Year –
08-07-2012,12:32 PM
So if 38% of all the points in the Bay Lake system is in the month of Feb., does that mean you would have a hard time booking there in Feb., even if you are 11 months out? I always thought (at least when we purchased at OKW in 1993) that for the points we bought at the time (230) we were GUARANTEED the ability to stay in a 1BR for a week in March, as long as we booked 11 mos. out...but if EVERYONE who owns points for that use year in February at Bay Lake wants to book, do they have enough inventory to cover the points sold, or do they have to turn people away?

Fortunately, a member's Use Year doesn't impact availability. We have 310 BLT points with a February UY, and we have booked stays at 11 month at BLT for March, early October, mid-October, and June. As you can see, the fact that I have a February UY doesn't mean that I will book reservations for just February.

I may be mistaken, but I think reservations have ALWAYS been "subject to availability". I've also never heard of preferential booking based on Use Year. As far as I know Use Year only comes into play for banking & borrowing. Was there a time in DVC history where that wasn't the case?

Guess Times Have Changed –
08-10-2012,08:20 AM
Well, I do remember we were guaranteed the SIZE of unit would always be in our "price point" range for the month of our use year...when we bought, there was only ONE DVC. Of course, back then, they used Stormalong Bay Pool at Y&BC as a sales tool, as we got to "swim in any pool", too! Now that perk is obviously amended. Anyway, I also thought the inventory was regulated so they could be sure they had enough to cover if everyone who bought that UY wanted to stay that month (as some people always have their vacation at a certain time). When we bought, it was based on WHEN we bought....we were there in March and so we really had no choice but to buy that UY. Then we "added on" at Vero Beach when that became available. We've stayed at tons of different DVC locations thru the years, too. I just thought it odd that 38% of a point inventory was locked into a certain UY. I guess they have found that UY is not as much of a factor in booking as it may have been in the past.
