You aren't too old by a long shot. If you buy on the resale market, you can buy at a resort that expires earlier than the newer ones.

We bought ours resale a little more than three years ago. We felt we were getting into the DVC game a little late because of our child's age. It didn't matter. Both my husband and I were buying this for us. We have many trips planned out that don't involve our daughter coming with us. We have trips planned that involve us only staying on property and not going into a park at all. Just staying at a DVC is sometimes enough Disney for us.

It's one of those things that you can't put a price on. I think the biggest question is "can you afford it?"

Assuming you can afford the contract, do you like WDW enough to go once or twice a year (or more)[ Our family does... we would live there if they would let us, but that is not true of everyone].

I would not buy just to go on the "other" vacations DVC offers, outside of WDW, but there are many who love going to other destinations.

The points you buy can be transferred if you can no longer use them... if you don't like your family enough to pass the points on to them.. I'm sure someone at DVCNews will be happy to accept them from you.

It is a big decision... and it took me 4 years to convince my wife to take the plunge... but after our first DVC vacation, we knew it was well worth it.

I do disagree with most of the "breaking even" analyses that folks claim. The claim that you break even in 7 years assumes that you are paying the cash price for the same room... truth be told, if we did not have DVC, we would likely stay in lesser accommodations. In my opinion, I am spending about the same as I would on vacationing, but I am getting much superior accommodations than I would if I did not own DVC.

We have been to WDW in 2005, 2009,2010, and twice in 2011.. planning to go back in December. Many of our friends cannot understand why we keep going back, but compared to some folks on this site, we don't go very often at all. Our last trip was our first DVC trip, and although we still are pretty active, going to the parks, and getting to our room just to sleep.. the resort is much more peaceful. we actually fell asleep with our sliding glass door open one night (Kidani Savanna view), and we didn't wake up.. there was no noise to wake up to! That would have never happened at the ALL-Star resorts (where we had stayed on previous visits).

I think everyones's break-even analysis is uniquely different and personal. Since my kids have aged to the point where they don't often vacation with us anymore, the last 10 years we have vacationed at least twice per year, and in accomodations very comparable to a DVC 1BR or 2BR suite. I can tell you that I spent a lot more in that time frame on just the resorts/hotels, than I did on my DVC contract. So, for me, I had no hesitation as to whether or not it was worth the money.

My husband and I bought last October. We are in our 60s and we will be taking our first DVC trip this coming October. We realize we won't be around for the duration of our contract but we are certainly planning on enjoying this membership for whatever years we are able to. One of our daughters and her family will be joining us next April for our 2nd stay. It took me years to get my husband interested in this membership and now he's like a little boy waiting for Christmas. We are very excited about this first trip. Age has nothing to do with fulfilling your dreams.
